Hi,
I have a family ancestor that passed away in Stanville in Staunton - on - wye in the early 1900's.
What i'm looking for is advice from the kind Hereford guys on the likliest church/burial ground my ancester would have been buried.
I'm still not sure where exactly Stanville is in Staunton-On-Wye. - If anyone could offer help on the whereabouts, that would be great as i'm planning a visit to the early in early 2017.
Places around that area my ancestor was known to live are:
Letton
Mansell Gamage
Mansell Lacy
Monnington on Wye
Weobley
Kinnersley
Staunton-On-Wye
Credenhill - This is where my ancestor got married.
Can anyone help me find out how many of the above places have churches with burial grounds?
And are there any graveyards around that area I should be looking at?

I don't know the area myself but if no-one comes up with any details you might try genuki.org.uk, that is where I usually start researching any new place that crops up.

All of those places have graveyards, most are fairly close to each other.
Stanville does not ring a bell at the moment but I will look further.

This link should take you to the present day parish map of Staunton on wye, with all houses named.
Many are new but I cannot find stanville, not surprising as many people change the name of a house when they buy it.

Correction to my first post. Mansell Gamage I don't think has a churchyard.
This is from Hereford record office catalog:
They hold burial records for this period for
Kinnersley
Mansell gamage
Staunton on wye
On microfilm
Credenhill
Mornington
Originals only, not filmed, you may need to book to see these.
Letton
Mansell lacy
Weobley
No records shown, they may be at the church still.
Byford is a parish not on your list, records have been filmed at Hereford record office.
A general observation the most likely places are the parish he died in or a family grave in the parish he was born in.

I've just 'walked' the 1901 census returns for Staunton on Wye (district 5), and there is nothing that mentions a Stanville there. There is a couple of Baskerville Cottages, if there is anyway that something go 'lost in translation' :-\ What was your ancestor's name?

Have located Stanville on a later index, and it seems to be located between The Rucketts and Myrtle Cottage (next houses are Pool Cottage, The Pool, Wrens Nest)

I've managed to track it down through the help of you guys and some very kind people linked to the churches in Hereford.

Mazi - thanks for your help in finding out which churches have burial grounds, it really helped narrowing down the possiblities
and Spidermonkey - thank you for rolling through the census returns. There are some names you mentioned that have indeed popped up with family connections.
You may be interested that I found Stanville. It is still there, has now changed name to Stadville or simillar, but amm currently in touch with someone who lives at the location and has access to previous owner info through deeds.

Hi, my mum lived at this cottage she is 90 now so lived there from about 1930 & I know she still lived there during the war. Her maiden name was Williams & she lived there with her gran.
