Title: Parents of Edward Greenough B 1765 Married Elizabeth (Betty)Leech
Post by: AprilG on Sunday 25 December 16 19:11 GMT (UK)
I have hit a brick wall with this.  Am seeking the parents of Edward Greenough of Winwick, Sutton,Lancashire.  Edward was born 1765, married 1817 and died Ditch Hillock, Sutton in 1849 but can find no record of his or his wife's parents names.  It is possible that his mother was a Mary Greenhow but have no concrete evident.  Does anyone out there have any information?

In 1851 Elizabeth (Leech) is a widow and as well as daughter Phoebe, she is with a son called Charles who is a 42 year old widower, so born well before the 1817 marriage.
I think very probably Edward and Elizabeth had both been married before.  A man born in 1765 would surely not wait till he was in his 50's, and there is also quite a difference in age between Edward and Elizabeth.

Could be
1797 = Marries 1st wife - Ellen
1805 = birth of daughter Ellen, Wife Ellen dies in childbirth
1805 - quickly marries 2nd wife Alice as needs a child minder
1809 = birth of Charles, wife Alice dies
1817 - Marries 3rd wife - Elizabeth Leech

Will  have to research deaths to see if the above pans out. I have not been able to find death cert for Ellen.  Likewise, will have to check districts to see if death of Alice ties up with somewhere they are likely to have been living and any records of his being a weaver there.
