James was born c. 1748 and married Susan Roberson, also of Glen Isla. I believe that he is the grandson of Duncan Shaw, originally of Crathienard, born 1653. I thought it might have been through Duncan's eldest son, James, as he had a son Alexander, and Alexander, according to Scotland's People, had a son named James born in Glen Isla in 1748, but in history of the Shaws it mentions Duncan's youngest son William's great grandson being of Auchinree, and that is the homestead our Shaws are from. I am hoping to find the correct link. Also I am puzzled how the history of the Shaws talks about Duncan's sons being at Culloden and how young William was there. I would think he would have had to have been at least 40 at Culloden. Are the stories mixed up with the 1715 uprising?
