Today I'm trying to see if there is ANY connection between William Richmond (and Elizabeth his wife/widow) who had a mill in Rattlesden in 1774-76 and Thomas Broome who had the same mill in 1781?
BMDs on all or any might be helpful too, though I know Elizabeth was a widow by 1776.

I though there must have been a connection! So Elizabeth married Thomas, and so the mill passed to the Broomes.

William was occupant of the mill in 1775 and Elizabeth was described as "widow" in 1776 when she insured the mill with the Sun Fire Office, so William died between 1775 & 76.

Following on from the Broome/Richmond connection I'm now wondering if there is a link between Thomas Broome and a chap called Christopher Clarke. He was a tenant but later is described as "proprietor". He may have bought it when Broome died (any ideas when???), or inherited it from Broome?
Finally do we have a name for Elizabeth Potter's or Mary Poole's fathers?

Hi again, will have a look, possibly the reason Elizabeth married so quickly after the unfound death of William was a birth of a William Richmond 15th December 1773 Rattlesden Father William?

So the mill passed from Richmond, to Broome to Clarke all without sale. Fantastic & thanks.
I don't think I'll be able to push ownership much earlier than William Richmond without a little luck!

Hi not knowing where the Richmond/Broome/Clarke Mill was just in case you are interested, in 1851 a Thomas Branwhite 53 b Melford was a Miller & Millwright at Half Moon Hill, Rattlesden

Yes. He married into the Lee family of Lavenham millers - He had been a blacksmith but progressed to millwrighting.
I'm not sure he actually was miller at Rattlesham and may have been there to carry out work on one of the three mill in the village.
