I had traced back my Nock ancestors well into the 1650s, starting from Phillis Nock, born in approx 1819, who married James Davies in Old Swinford, Worcester, in 1840. I had assumed that she was the Phillis Nock christened in 1821 to Aaron and Lucy Nock, and had traced Aaron's forebears. However, I could not find out what happened to Aaron and Lucy after the 1820s. My fruitless researching came to a head yesterday, when I found Aaron and Lucy Nock in Durham, having more children. Furthermore, after Lucy died, the key to knowing this was the same family was Aaron's second marriage. His father on this marriage transcription was 'Noble'; so I knew I had the correct man, and on censuses, he was born in Worcestershire. However, I would never have found this prior, as it was recorded under 'Knox'.
To my dismay, I found a record for a Phillis Knox, father Aaron Knox, marrying in Durham, in 1839- so my Phillis, and all of her Nock ancestors, are completely wrong! I had a sorry night deleting them all off of my tree, after a year of work on them. I guess my story shows the importance of getting certificates to back up your data- Phillis' marriage certificate would be a good start. Does anyone else have a similar story? I am glad I have found out the truth, but I do not know where to go next regarding Phillis, as the only other Phillis was born in 1825, not 1819 as she is recorded on the censuses. I have some thinking to do!

Thanks for all your help- I have tentatively added Phillis' parents as William and Mary Ann, and suggested that she was a Talbot and not a Torbet- Torbet seems to be a very uncommon surname. Many thanks with help for the marriage I was struggling finding this- I need to remember to open freereg more than I do! I think I may have to get Phillis' marriage certificate to check her father IS William- there may be more Phillis Nocks that I do not know about. I believe that she may be possibly be descended from the same line of Nocks as before, so my research may not have been totally wasted!

*Considering that she was living with William on the 1841 census with her husband, I find it highly unlikely that William isn't her father!

Yes I agree but if you want the Cert to confirm I would recommend it.
But I am pretty sure he is her Father as I posted her Baptism also.
