Welcome to rootschat  :)

Have you considered entering the information you have given as a postem on freebmd
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=741472

Done!  :)

Hopefully it may help someone one day and stop them buying the wrong certificate, we have all done it.  At least now the GRO indexes have mothers maiden names before 1911 which hopefully stops some errors.

Hi Rosie,

Thanks for the suggestion. I wouldn't have thought of it, but as you say, if more of us did, it would save some of those disappointments when it's the wrong one.

I noticed that you had quoted the maiden name and you say again here that the GRO now shows mothers maiden name. Where are you finding that? All the ones I've looked up don't? Are you looking somewhere different to me?

Thanks

Andrea

Hi Andrea

It is the website for the GRO certificate ordering that now has this information.
It also has ages at death on earlier records.  You have to register but it is free.
https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/Login.asp

It is a bit of a pain to use as you can only search over =/-  2years and have to select sex but has been brilliant at finding those lost children so many of us have.  I tend to search on freebmd then check on the GRO if I am looking over a large time span.  Some childrens ages under 12 on the death registers do not indicate whether it is weeks/months or years though so beware.

Many thanks Rosie,

I have even been on the GRO site to order a couple of certs this week and didn't realise that!

This site is already proving extremely helpful and I only discovered at the weekend!

The trouble with this site is its addictive.  ;D

The GRO site changed around November and at the time were offering copies of birth & death entries available from the new search which were not certified copies as a trial. They emailed them and they were only £6. Hopefully when they have run their other trials they may be available again.

Grrr, I totally missed that! £6 would have been nice.

I usually have a splurge over the Christmas break and it was back up to £9.75 then.

You're definitely right about it being addictive - I've hopped all over this site and there's loads I want to dig into.... I went to bed at 2am last night/this morning!!

I expect they will be reduced eventually for family history purposes.  I must admit I ordered quite a few while I could. I try not to be on here in the evenings as I then go to bed still trying to solve things.  ::)
