Police Gazettes on-line
The Police Gazettes 1878-1945 for Wellington have been digitised and are available on Archway.
Go to the Archway and enter New Zealand Police Gazettes in the box - click search
At the page that says 909 click go
At results page click refine search (top right of page)
unclick everything in line "held at" except WN and digital
Click go
change 1 (at bottom of page) to 7 and click >>
you should now be at the beginning of the digitised images (there are several pages)
These include events that have occurred all over NZ not just Wellington.
Thanks to Lyn for posting this originally. (Found on my facebook page)

Hi Helen,
Fantastic news, and thanks very much for sharing it.
Many of these Police Gazette's have more than one Index which can be confusing to those who haven't seen them before.
Taking the New Zealand Police Gazette 1916 Vol 41 as an example, there is a:
General Index.
Index of Discharged Prisoners (includes crime, year of birth, description, native of, scars, etc.)
Index of Persons Summarily Convicted.
Index to Photographs (from 1886).
All indexes are alphabetical.
TIP: It often pays to search every index in these Gazettes, as an individual may appear in more than one.
And remember to search under aliases, they seem to be quite common!
