I now admit defeat on this side of our family, unable to trace any of the Anderson family from Kirkcudbright after 1891 on Ancestry nor SP.
Last record 1891 Census records Nicholas Mcmillan b 1833 married Thomas Anderson in 1856 he died 1880. Her children at home 1891 Margaret Jane b 21 July 1867 , Nicholas Jane b 3 Jan 1876 & Thomas b1880 all b Kirkcudbright.
The 1891 census record has Nicholas age 57 living as baby linen merchant at Royal Hotel St Cuthbert St. SP has her record on valuation roll upto 1896, haven't been able to find another marriage or death or another census entry for Nicholas and her 3 children.
Would appreciate any comments suggestions where to search next .

Hello Rosie, Thanks for you comments/suggestions - I hadn't gone for the 1893 d for Nicholas Mcmillan but it was worth a go - not right person.
i looked at the Thomas servant that would be a good possble.
It just appears to be strange for a family running a business for some years to all go off record, I also considered emmigration for the younger members but not trace to date. Also looked for any will on SP - no trace. I'll keep looking around need to find an Anderson MI's next time we go up to Kirkcudbright.

No trace of Nicholas d record nor the children even on FindMyPast, so on hold untill we take another trip to Kircudbright late rin the year.
Plenty of other family members to keep me busy.

Looks like your on the right track again.
It would appear that Nicholas died in San Francisco on 14th October 1908 aged 75 years.
I have a poor quality copy of a MI for Kirkcudbright cemetery ( St Cuthberts) I have copied it out as best as I can. It reads.......
...the memory of Captain Thomas Anderson,who died 20th February 1880,
....ars .Also of Eliza Jane Mitchell,his daughter,who died 12th
........ 864 aged 3 years and 6 months.Also Samuel,his son,died at
...........s, 2nd Feb'y. 1901,aged 35 years. Also John,his eldest son died
...........eles,10th May 1907,aged 51 years. Both sleep in Rosedale Cemetery,
.......... Also Nicholas Macmillan,wife of the said Capt. Thomas Anderson,

There is a good chance this is the death for John H Anderson although it says the 9 May 1907 Los Angeles age 50 ...www.findagrave.com has photo of grave stone his two children can be found in later census with an Aunt and Uncle assuming from his wife's side of the family

Going by the information from Grave Stone there is a death for a Hugh Anderson 18 January 1958
Seattle King Washington age 52 but the father's name is down as Bruce Anderson ..

I thought that 1910 death must be for Hugh as well.

I think the father John must have married someone named Rubidoux (or variant)-noting the middle name of one of Ruby's children and a marriage for John jr in New Jersey.
I'll see if I can find a link to the marriage. Computer is about to go "spinny" on me.

There are Naturalization Records for Margaret Jane HOGG a widow born June 22 1867 Kirkcudbright. One of the witnesses is Nettie McCONNELL of Daly City.
The other is C.B. Kiler a carpenter of Sutter St San Fran who seems to be a neighbour. He is the informant on Margaret's death and makes a bit of a mess of the info.
