Hi all,
I have received a picture of a grave-stone for the abovenamed buried in Shepherds Lane Cemetery, Beaconsfield (grave number 346526) and reading from it he died 29-2-1940. There are no other names listed on the stone but says he was a husband & father.
Would anyone be able to help with any additional info such as his wife's name etc in the parish registers etc.
He seems to be the same person who is recorded dying mar ¼ 1940 in Reading, Berks aged 56 but why he is buried in Beaconsfield?
All help much appreciated
Alan

A death is registered in the Registration District in which the death occurred.
This may not be the same as the Registration District of the person's home?
I would guess that he died in a hospital?
Looking at the free index to the 1939 National Register, there appears to be:
Mary I (Louisa) Saunders and 1 other person on the record for Alfred Ernest.
The parish record of burial is unlikely to contain his wife's name?
She may be mentioned on the Death Certificate.

Hi,
I;m not sure where KGarrad did their lookup but on FindMyPast there is also another Alfred E Saunders (03 Feb 1884) at High Wycombe (close to Beaconsfield) with a wife Rose (1886)and two children still at home Harold (1917) and Edgar (1921).

I used the free Index Search on FindMyPast - because we aren't allowed to give details (copyright issues).
Entering "Alfred Saunders", birth 1884, +/- 2 years, gives just 1 hit for an Alfred E - the one in Reading.

Hi KGarrard & Peter,
Thanks for your replies.
The reason for me questioning his death/burial is because in the 1939 Register he is in Watlington St. Reading with wife & d/o
He was born 18-8-1883 Reading and in the 1911 census I have a similar person in the Grenadier Guards also born Reading and shown as married. The only marriage I have is for one mar ¼ 1911 in the Brentford Regis. Dist. which may be him but I've not found any army records to confirm.
I'm not convinced the photo of a gravestone relates to my Alfred Ernest Saunders.
The burial in mar ¼ 1940 aged 56 is very convincing as all ties in with his birthdate.
This Alfred Ernest is a s/o of my G.Grandfather and I'm only filling details so really don't want to invest in certs.
KG.
Just seen your reply. Does that search index reveal people are buried?

People shown on the 1939 National Register are those who have died. (It was kept updated until 1991)
Those people who have not been proved to have died are redacted.

The 1911 Brentford marriage would match that couple ;)
