Title: Elusive marriage for Cyril & Bertha
Post by: Muffin41 on Friday 27 January 17 13:23 GMT (UK)
Cyril Victor Sutton was born 6 May 1906 in Frome, died 25 Apr 1994 Hatch Beauchamp, Somerset; probate 20 Jun 1994 in Bristol.
I cannot find a marriage for him although in 1939 I have found him living in Wine Street Frome with a Bertha E. ???? who was born 1 Sep 1912; place not known.

In 1926 he was in the merchant navy and may have married overseas.

Can anyone help me further; I have looked on www.freebmd.org.uk/ with no luck.

the 1939 did show 2 x blacked out entries which usually indicates people still alive i.e maybe 2 children . tried looking for bertha e sutton death to see if that helps any but alas i don't find a death for this lady or indeed a remarriage. just a thought ?? searching births in somerset for a bertha e in 1912 shows one match - Berth E Penny 3rd qtr yeovil district with mothers maiden name loveless of course she could have been born anywhere ?
regards

There are family trees on ancestry that show this couple with five children
one of which has connections in the US
contacting the owners may help

Searching for Cyril Victor SUTTON will bring up the tree
It gives his spouse as private

In case they had children born Frome reg district you can eliminate those with mmn Hackney - Walter S Sutton married Elsie Hackney.  The other person in the 1939 household could hold a clue to Bertha's maiden name.  There are quite a few birth registrations Frome RD that would fit that combination though no sign of a marriage.
