It's a 12-mile walk according to Google Maps.

Hi, did you see the burial in Cloford for Elizabeth Sevier age 7m,  1st Jan 1794.

There was another baptism in Cloford, Elizabeth, Aug 1792. Baseborn, mother Amy Sevier.

Hi. no I hadn't noticed that, this elizabeth married adam shearn,in bath 9/5/1825. one census says somerset, another wincanton, which is somerset, but 1851 says guernsey. they weren't wealthy so I am not in favour of guernsey. thanks for helping, I'll look closer.  she died bath 1867 after being in london with her son.

1851 census could it have been a misunderstanding.
Farrington Gurney is a village in Somerset, and Adam says he was born Farrington was Gurney continued on the next line where Elizabeth birth place was supposed to be.

this could be the explanation and would be quite feasible. thanks for that.

It is quite clearly "Guernsey (British Sub.)" in the 1851 census. The addition of British Subject shows the enumerator considered the place was outside the UK. Being born in the Channel Islands in those days wouldn't be a sign of wealth. More likely it suggests a nautical connection.

hi. thanks for your reply. It does seem more likely then that she was born of british parents, maybe a wife on board ship with her husband? and their home could have been in somerset.
