Title: Crossmichael churchyard look up please
Post by: meeganf on Tuesday 31 January 17 17:39 GMT (UK)
Hi there
I am looking for the death of William ROBERTSON sometimes changed to ROBINSON, unable to find in death records to date so wondered if there are any records for Crossmichael where he and his wife Mary were living in 1796 when their son was born.

The address was Greenlaw Mains - what does the words Mains refer to?
Thank you for any help
Meegan

The word Mains seems to refer to the main buildings of a farm  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mains_(Scotland)

I have the Crossmichael MIs  and will check to see if they're a gravestone for them. I'll have to delve around!

Added - sorry nothing in Crossmichael MIs.

I've been having a wee peek at Scotlands Places ( http://www.scotlandsplaces.gov.uk/ )

In 1771 Greenlaw Mains was owned by William Gordon of Drumrash  - Land Tax records.

The site sometimes throws up interesting info - I found 3 or 4 records of my ancestors in the Horse Tax records. It's worth browsing  :)
