Title: Penuel Alexander
Post by: morageckford on Monday 06 February 17 17:37 GMT (UK)
Penuel Alexander born Fochabers 1852, died Lossiemouth 1941. Looking for her parents - mother was Jane Duncan from Blairnhall I think. Father?

Her death cert will give both parents names.

The Scottish 1861 has her transcribed as Pennel but parents are Samuel & Helen. Where did you get Jane Duncan from?

Thankyou for a prompt reply. Oral family history - Jane Duncan of Blairnhall used to make illicit whisky and walk to Elgin with it to sell! I understood she was Penuel's mother.Jane was born 18th Jan 1819 and died 2nd Jan 1989, possibly at 51 South St Elgin. Who was her husband? I'd be most grateful if you could tell me mpore about her then I can see where she fits into my family tree.

Do you mean 1889?  Have you viewed her death cert on Scotlands People?

No - I'm trying to get into Scotland's People right now but it keeps asking me for my password and I haven't a clue as it's so long since I last looked. I'll keep trying!

After rummaging in more of my Mum's papers I've discovered that Penuel's husband was William Duncan Mathieson and Jane Duncan of Blairnhall was his mother, not Penuel's. So Jane is related to me after all. Poor Penuel was 'addicted to drink', I've discovered. Thankyou all for your help. Much appreciated.
