Title: Marriage 18th Mar 1835 - Burton in Kendal, Westmoreland - William Pennells
Post by: Dorking123 on Tuesday 07 February 17 18:19 GMT (UK)
Can anyone help me with this marriage please?

Does the parish record give the name of the father of William Pennells who married Ann Clarke

His occupation was a butcher

Unfortunately there are a number of William Pennells born in Burwash in Sussex around 1803 & it is not possible to confirm the identity of this particular William without reference to his father's name

Thanks

Gerry

Marriages prior to 1.7.1837 do not show fathers names

Hi,
I've got the printed transcript of the Burton in Kendal Registers (1653-1837).  The actual entry does give a bit more information:
1) the marriage was by licence - the marriage bond should be at the Lancashire Archives in Preston and may well tell you more about William
2) the two witnesses were J. Wilson and Jane Clarke.

Hope that info is helpful.

There is a William Pennels born 1803 Burwash Sussex who was not baptized until 7 July 1814 age 11 of Stephen and Susanna.

This may be the same man, joined the 52nd Foot Soldiers 11 October 1825 at Chichester, born 1803 Burwash Sussex, sandy complexion, blue eyes, sandy hair, long face, 5' 71/2" tall. He was transferred to a service company 5 May 1828.
Listed under British Regimental Soldiers who served in Canada, on ancestry.
The National Archives may have more information, the military would need to know who to contact in case of death.

I bet the one baptized 16 January 1803 son of William and Jemima is yours, because he named his first son William and later a daughter Jemima. Still needs proof .
