Hi,
Can anyone please help me, I just keeping bouncing off one brick wall to another.
I have identified my 3rd Gt GM, as Melinda Wyatt
Her DOB is Abt 1810, I believe (through census and marriage cert) that she was born in Bloxham, Gloucestershire.
She married George Callow - 1809-1877 on the 23rd Dec 1834, in Deddington, Oxfordshire,
As well as the marriage cert, the 1841, 1851, 1861 & 1871 censuses all collaborate. these facts.
Melinda and George's children were:
Eliza, John Albert, Charles, Melinda, Lucy, Elizabeth, Edward, and William Wyatt.
Her name is on all the children's birth regs and baptisms, and I find it interesting that she gave her surname as a middle name to William.
My problem is, is I cannot find her date of birth, either birth reg or baptism, so I can't trace her parents or anyone else in that tree! I've searched on a number of ancestry sites, looked at local baptisms, graveyard, head stones, local history groups....nothing!
I've also tried different name spellings, looked at family with that name in the area where she is likely to have been born, and yes there are some Wyatt's in surrounding villages, but I can't find any connection.
This is driving me crazy! :'( :'(I have no idea where else I can look. I'm trying on here because I can see that there's so many people who are vastly more experienced at this than me!
Any help will be gratefully received.

Isn't Bloxham in Oxfordshire - not Gloucestershire?

I've just looked thru the Bloxham registers (about 1795 - 1812) and couldn't find a Melinda Wyatt baptism at all.
I did see a couple of entries for "Wyatt" children being baptised, but to different parents in each case.
One item I did come across was the bapt. of George Callow 1-6-1809 in Bloxham & Milton (Presbytarian), s/o William & Lucy. Not sure if this is the same person you list .

What kind of marriage certificate have you got from 1834? Proper ones as we know it with fathers names etc didn't start until later in 1837.
Does it say if she was a spinster because Wyatt may not be the surname she was born under.
Added - you're right the births do confirm that as her maiden name.

Thank you for taking the time to look.
That's the correct George, his parents were William Callow and Lucy Meadows.
I can't understand why Melinda is so elusive, the only thing I can think is that she was baptized with a different first name, I have come across this before. At one time I explored the possibility of her being born in a different country, though this is highly unlikely as Bloxham is stated in all the census records.
As she is my direct pedigree line, I just can't seem to let it go! no matter how frustrating it is. ! ???

I haven't got the actual marriage cert, just the Church banns etc
They only state Wyatt . I have considered that she was married before, and am still not discounting it, however, as she named her son William Wyatt, I tend to think that it was her maiden name.

Could it be her mothers name was something else when Melinda was born then her mother married a Wyatt and took that name?
I would look for other Melinda baptisms and marriages around the time of her birth between male Wyatt and just might get lucky and solve it.
I have a frustrating one too and completely understand as I can't let that one go either!

Her birth year ranges from 1805 on her death, 1811 - 1812 - 1807 - 1808 on census.

The actual marriage entry says George was a bachelor and Melinda a spinster.
Do you require the marriage entry ??

There's a Rebecca Wyatt baptised Bloxham 9 Aug 1813 parents James & Sarah.
Not saying that is her but could be a sister :-\
Marriage for James & Sarah might help just in case they married after Melinda and Sarah was her mother.

I saw that too, that her birth range is quite wide according to the census's, I have tried all of them.
I settled on abt 1810, due to the ages of her children and marriage, but I do have an open mind about it.
You could be right about her taking the surname of a step father. I'm still a bit green about this, I have to keep reminding myself that during those times, people weren't so precise about names, dates etc. and the fact that the census's could be a bit slap dash!

Yes that all looks above board doesn't it.
It would help if Melinda popped up as a witness to a siblings marriage then we could trace back.
I was looking at Sarah Wyatt another daughter of James & Sarah married 1840.
James was a mason but no Melinda witness.

It'd odd because non of her family were witnesses at her wedding, George's brother and his wife were the witnesses, not a Wyatt in sight !

Another long shot but a Susanna Wyatt marries an Edward Callow Bloxham 25 Nov 1825.

I have looked through the OxFHS - Marriage Index - 1538-1837.
There are roughly 15 marriages that may fit for the birth of Melinda Wyatt.
But there are WHYATT, WHYAT, WIAT, WYET, WHYETT, so there could be many more to add to that 15 possibles.
You can never assume, that the place of a parents marriage, is the place of a baptism or birth.!
Ones that stand out are as follows, taking into account of a birth year of 1805 - 1812.
Charles Wyatt,(occ. Draper), to Ann Walford, 25 Oct 1791 @ Banbury
James Wyatt, to Sarah Hunt, 16 Feb 1803 @ Bloxham.
John Wyatt, to Charlotte Barton,(Both sojourners), 13 Nov 1806 @ Oxford St Giles.
John Wyatt, to Hannah Hale, 5 Nov 1810 @ Adderbury.
Richard Wyatt, to Elizabeth Aldridge, 4 May 1808 @ Banbury.
Robert Wyatt(occ.Boat builder), to Ann Kerwood, 31st Oct 1803 @ Banbury.
William Wyatt, to Ann Harris. (Both sojourners). 14th Nov 1806 @ Ox St Giles.
William Wyatt, to Mary Webb, 11 Feb 1810, @ Ox St Michael.

Another long shot but a Susanna Wyatt marries an Edward Callow Bloxham 25 Nov 1825.
And they were in Deddington in 1841 - where George and Melinda also lived.
Susan(nah) Callow was b abt 1803-4 Bloxham per 1851 census. She died aged 51 in 1854 (Coventry RD).
