Title: James mccormick 1872 ireland
Post by: daisy1954 on Friday 17 February 17 14:07 GMT (UK)
hi,

I am looking for information for my great uncle James McCormick born in Laois (Queens) his family
move to Bolton, Lancashire just after he was born, James married Agnes Odlum in 1892.
I thought they had both died in 1904 & 1908 leaving their to son's Francis & James jr orphans.
But it appears they had a daughter Agnes Minnie in 1904, and emigrated to York, Toronto.
I found Agnes and Children in 1907 on a ship manifest going to husband James. I also know they lived in Castleton Ave.
Can any one help me fill in any more gaps your help would be appreciated

Thank you

Thanks Sandra, I have this info and on James junior, it is Agnes I am trying to find out about.
I have just found out that James senior marries a Mary Ann Vardon a widow in 1910.
So Agnes as died between 1907 when she and the children land in Canada to 1910 when James remarries,
I was wondering if James and the children take Agnes home to England and the James & children go back to Canada.

Thanks Again

Hi Sandra,

It sound's like they came back home to England, Anges must have wanted to die here, with all her family around her.
I have just come across another travel manifest using Minnie and it shows her returning to Canada with her Dad & brother's did'nt think it was them as Dads job is different to the job given when he marries Mary, one his he's a carpenter and the other is he's a miner
it has what looks like 1906 to 1908 and then 18mths returning Canadians

Thanks

Hi,

Found a death for Mary Ann McCormack - Globe and Mail newspaper, May 25 1942 page 24.

She died on May 24th 1942 at her home, 28 Castelton Ave.  She was Mary Ann Allum, wife of James McCormack, mother of Nelson Vardon, Frank McCormack and Mrs David Cross (Minnie) of Akron, Ohio.  Interment Prospect Cemetery.

Toronto Star March 26, 1927 page 20  - has Albert Nelson Vardon listed as one of 4 Bell Telephone Company employees who received awards for acts of conspicuous bravery or resourcefulness.  Nelson saved a young woman employee from bleeding to death when she severed an artery in her arm.  There is a photo of Nelson here.

I looked but couldn't find an obit for your James McCormick/McCormack.

If I had a date of death, I could search by date instead of by name.  Perhaps you could contact  Prospect Cemetery to see if James is buried with Mary Ann - and get a date of death??
