Title: felicia prees
Post by: Racheal Kibble on Sunday 19 February 17 18:19 GMT (UK)
hi all.
I'm wondering if anybody can help with Felicia Prees (possibly preece)

Filicia prees married George kibble 25 December 1863 at st peters, Birmingham.
fathers Thomas Prees (carter) and Thomas kibble (groom)
witnessed by Sophia adey and joseph kinson?

1871 census
bishopsgate street court

George kibbl b1842 wiltshire
Julia kibbl b1845 Aston parish.

next door to 1871 census is
Charles Adey age 38
Harriet Adey age 50 (nee prees ) married 1857 (neither married before)

I'm looking for Felicia prees before her marriage to George kibble
she is Felicia in every census apart from 1871
I cannot find a birth or 1851 and 1861 censuses

any help gratefully received
thanks
racheal

Hi Harriet Adey was clearly older than Charles in 1871, could she be the mother of Felicia,  have you tracked Harriet back as in 1861 it shows a Charles Adey 29 and a Harriet Adey 47? in Sherborne Street, Birmingham
Census ref RG09/2130/66/23
Who was the father of Harriet at marriage?

It all seems a bit interconnected

Charles Adey's mother was I think called Sophia (he also had a sister Sophia but she was married before Felicia's marriage

Charles Adey, widower, marries Mary Jane Kinson, widow, in  1877. her maiden name was Haden, and she appears to have first married Joseph Kinson!

hi.
yes that's what I thought.
but there are no children living with harriet and Charles in 1861 census.

harriet says her father was Benjamin prees on marriage in 1857

I came to a dead end here too, I think Benjamin died 1823 b'ham
2 possible marriages mary simpson 1814 (daughter harriet born 1820 -1834)
                               sarah cutler 1821

Felicia just seems to come into existence, aged 19, when she gets married.
so frustrating haha

That looked the most likely one to me as well.
But ancestry.co has a burial record for her, 1834 aged 14.
The record actually says Daughter Of Benjamin and Mary which is unusual but helpful!

This sounds like it could be her:

Felicia Hyde birth reg'd Sept.1844 Aston - mothers maiden name Prees.

thanks Annette!

ive had a quick look and it seems she is the daughter of james hyde and caroline (who is probably nee goldingay)

I think I will have to buy the birth certificate for this Felicia b1844 to check proper details.

James and Caroline's children seem to have been baptised at Castle Bromwich, Warwickshire even though census states born Aston.

From 1851 census we have:

Catherine bc.1824 - actually baptised 1824 in Birmingham
Joseph bc.1837 (?) baptised 1840 Castle Bromwich
Henry bc.1838 (?) baptised 1837 Castle Bromwich
Falecia bc.1843 - baptised 29/5./1842 Castle Bromwich
Ellen bc.1845 -
Thomas bc.1847

Falecia/Felicia bc.1843 was, as stated, baptised in 1842 as Hide (dau. of James and Caroline) so cannot be the Felicia Hyde birth registered Sept.1844 Aston, whose mothers maiden name was Prees, not Goldingay.

yes i found that :)
perhaps theres two Felicia hydes then!

I don't suppose you have access to family trees on Ancestry to see if anybody else has her?

I cant find a baptism on findmypast or freereg, but Warwickshire baptisms tend to be better covered on Ancestry anyway.

if not I will order the certificate later on.

strangely the other Felicia Hyde is the only one showing, however the GRO search has picked up the following Hydes, mmn Prees b Aston

Thomas   1838
Unnamed  1839
Catherine  1846

However can't find them, or a Prees-Hyde marriage

great minds think alike Mabel!

I was just looking at the exact same records!
there is no marriage for Prees-Hyde going either way.

its certainly a strange one

I'm adding this update for anybody else who comes along searching for the elusive Felicia Prees.

Felicia Prees was born 9 july 1845 to Thomas Hyde and Harriet, formerly Prees.
She was born at Great Barr Street, Birmingham.

Thomas Hyde and Harriet Prees were never married despite having 6 children together.

Elizabeth Hyde. buried 9 august 1838 at St Martins. age 3 abode Lawley street.
Thomas Hyde. buried 13 august 1838 at St Martins. age 3. Abode Lawley Street
Thomas Hyde. B Q1 1838 mmn Prees. Buried 13 January 1843. St Martins. Abode Dartmouth Street.
unnamed female. B and D q1 1839. Mothers maiden name- Prees
Felicia Hyde. B Q3 1844. MMN Prees.
Catherine Hyde. B Q3 1846. mmn Prees. probably Buried 6 sep 1848. St Martins.

1841 census
Lawley Street, Aston

Thomas Hyde 40. 1801. Caster.
Harriet Hyde. 35. 1806.

1851 Census
Back of 45 Belmont Row, Aston.

Thomas Hyde. 45. 1806. Brass Caster. Birmingham
Harriet Hyde. 41. 1811. Domestic. Birmingham.
? (female)Hyde. 6. 1845. School. Birmingham. (this name is unreadable but presumably Felicia)

Thomas Hyde dies aged 47. Buried 9 April 1852 at St James The Less- Abode Belmont Row.

Harriet Prees then marries Charles Adey in 1857 as a spinster as she was never married

Felicia Hyde marries George Kibble in 1863 as Felicia Prees.

She does name her father as Thomas, but perhaps to avoid the stigma of illegitimacy, she names him Thomas Prees, (Brass) Caster.

Finally, the other Felicia Hydes, b1838, and b1842, belong to Thomas Hyde's' brothers, John and James, respectively.

I thank everyone on this site, and on the many others that I have asked for and received help on, with this family.
