Title: 1911 nurse girl lincolnshire
Post by: Gwen in gozo on Wednesday 22 February 17 21:12 GMT (UK)
I came across a job description of nurse girl for my relative in a lincolnshire census 1911. She was only 15 years old so I assume not a qualified nurse. Anyone any ideas what a nurse girl might be and job description

I've seen Nurse Girl on a census, followed by (Domestic Servant), so I suppose it means something like a nursemaid.

her sister was a domestic servant age 17 on the same census so I assume there must be a difference. It would seem young to be in charge of children or anything medical

Was she with her parents or living with others in a house with young children? It is more likely to be a nursemaid rather than a medical nurse.

She was living with her parents and siblings so I assume it was not a live in job

15 wasn't particularly young to be a nursemaid.

A nurse girl was also a term for a foster child.

There are numerous adverts for Nurse Girls in the newspapers. For example from the  Exeter and Plymouth Gazette - Wednesday 22 March 1911
