Title: Joseph Fallon born 1884
Post by: jrc11 on Thursday 23 February 17 10:50 GMT (UK)
I am trying to find out what happened to Joseph Fallon born 1884 in the Roscommon area. His parents were Malachy Fallon and Elizabeth Campbell who married on 17/2/1881 @ Strokestown. Malachy was from Killinvoy and in 1901 and 1911 the family were resident in that area. Joseph was an only child. A Joseph Fallon married in Roscommon in April 1915 but this is not the Joseph I am seeking. Any help will be much appreciated.
Regards

LINK (http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Roscommon/Scregg/Killeenrevagh/1670178/) to 1901 census return

LINK (http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Roscommon/Scregg/Killeenrevagh/783967/) to 1911 census return

Malachy FALLON died Oct 10 1921 LINK (https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1921/05083/4394940.pdf)
His son Joe FALLON of Culleen, Knockcroghery was the informant

Elizabeth FALLON died Jan 15 1925 LINK (https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1925/05019/4371558.pdf)
Her son Joe FALLON of Culleen was the informant

This places Joseph alive and in Co. Roscommon in 1925

There is a death in 1931 in the District Hospital Athlone of a bachelor named Joseph FALLON
He is shown as 44 which is slightly out but close and his address was Roscommon RD (Rural District)
Not enough to be sure but a possibility

Thank you dathai for the information and links. It is probably the same person but he is 50 on the estates record and from Westmeath but 44 and from Roscommon RD (which I presume is Rural District) on the death record. Most confusing

Unfortunately the death records did not hold very much information and when someone died in hospital or away from home the information becomes more scant. Sometimes you are lucky if the person is described as "wife of ..." or a specific address to help.

dathai's suggestion is based on the date of death being the same (Feb 26 1931)
Athlone is on a river and half is in Roscommon and half in Westmeath

The address anomaly is confusing

The (50) after Joseph Fallon's name on the administration record is not his age but an index or reference number.
If you look at the man below him on the index you will see (527) after his name.

I think that Roscommon Co Co hold the records for Churchboro Cemetery, Killinvoy which would logically be where Malachy and Elizabeth would have been buried

They may not have had a headstone erectedn

The Land registry in the Irish Life Mall may be able to tell you who owned their land and when
The have details for rates purposes of changes to properties and transfer of ownership since the mid 1800s at the time of the Griffiths Valuations - I think that you have to visit

Thank you for your help. I tramped around Killinvoy cemetery last year and found no headstone. All indications are that he had no children and thus that line dies out for me.

If you would like to find his death specifically to prove that he had no children you could look at the Land registry.
As Malachy and Elizabeth had estates that went to probate, logically Joseph would have inherited and have had land and/or money to bequest.
The date the land was registered would give a date that Joseph left the area either by immigration or by death.
