Title: Workhouse records
Post by: Towdlass on Saturday 25 February 17 14:01 GMT (UK)
Are there any records kept of the workhouses in Sheffield listing inmates? The period I'm interested in is 1930 to 1935 approx. I feel sure that there must be but can they be accessed online?

See Records towards bottom of page.  It suggests that there may be 100 year closure of any available records

Thanks rosie99. I completely forgot about that. That's the trouble when you're trying to trace someone, isn't it? You get tunnel vision. This 100 year closure is something I keep bumping into. I may not live long enough to see the results that I want disclosed that's the problem. How annoying.
Thanks for your help though.

Maybe they were just in hospital there and not normally resident  :-\

Would that make it accessible if that was the case because that was what I wanted to check?  ::)

I would doubt whether that would make it accessible.  Presumably they died there  :-\

Well, that's the thing Rosie, I don't think that they did. I cannot find any record of a death around this time in this area. It was just something I wanted to check having tried almost all other avenues. Never mind, back  to the drawing board.
Thank you so much for your help.
