Hello , If anyone happens to visit St Mary's Church Cemetery in Caterham I would really appreciate it if they could read inscription on the gravestones { 2} together , of my Thomas Prout who died in 1915 aged 34 and Emily Jane White who died in 1945 , they should be on same stone . Just in front of that stone is a stone of their son Reginald Thomas Prout who died in 1981 and his wife Ann who died in 1989. I have a photo of stones but can't read inscriptions .
Many thanks
Alan

Just a suggestion but you could post the photo in the deciphering section and I'm sure there will be plenty of people willing to give it a shot for you :)

Yes, please post the photo, even if the writing is too out-of-focus for anyone to decipher. Knowing what to look for and/or what's in the background will help find the grave. This is a moderately large cemetery.

Hello , hopefully I have attached the photo .

Thanks Alan. I read the top one as
In loving memory of
Thomas Prout
passed away 20th July 1915
aged 34 years
Also of
our dear mother
Emily Jane White
passed away 20 May 1945
aged 64 years
always in our thoughts

bottom one is more difficult but on the left
also loving memory of their only son?
Reginald Thomas
on the right
also in fond remembrance of
Ann
Dates are hard to read but you seem to have those already

Thank you very much for that , if any kind person is in the cemetery I would appreciate the words of the bottom gravestone .

have you tried contacting the church and asking for help?
They have a churchyard conservation team which meets on a Saturday morning

I don't know whether you got an answer to this offline, but in case not and having finally got there, the inscription on the rear stone is as Milliepede says; the "book" in the front reads:-
Left side:
Also
in loving memory
of
their only son
Reginald Thomas
Born
14th September 1908
Died 27th April 1981
Dearly loved husband
of Ann.
Right side:
Also
in fond remembrance
of
Ann
Born
9th May 1912
Died
21st April 1999
Note that Ann's yod is 10 years later than you give above.
There just might be some lettering on the flat stone in front of the book -- I couldn't read it if there is. I was there late following a trip elsewhere and it was getting dark. I'll have another try in daylight some time, as well as getting some better photos (this one looks odd being taken with flash), but I can't say when.
The grave is in the new cemetery rather than the original churchyard, in Section B, near the E of "B/C of E" on the map at the entrance.

Hello Chris , thank you very much for going to the trouble , much appreciated . I think the error on year of death was a "typo " by me .
