Title: St Mungo Parish
Post by: Irene B on Friday 03 March 17 14:25 GMT (UK)
I found a birth and baptism record for Jean Carlyle born 27 March, baptised 30 March 1812, parents are Walter Carlyle and Mary Halliday, but I can't make out the address

It looks like Shelgholm Park ?  does anyone know what it might be?

I have attached a screenshot showing a few places on the same page, it is the bottom line I am struggling with

Irene,  I think it's Skellyholm Park, also, Riggside of  Nutholm, Cowdens,  Sorrysyke, Falariggs & Righead!  All in St Mungo's.

Skoosh.

Hi Irene B

I have a Carlyle family connected to St Mungos - Elizabeth Carlyle c1799 daughter of Thomas Carlyle & Helen Norrie. She was my husbands 4th great grandmother. They had another 4 children - Mary, William, Thomas & George.

Wondered if there is any connection with your Carlyle family.

Hi Diane,

i'm sorry but I am still stuck with Walter and Mary Halliday, I haven't found their marriage or baptisms yet.  If I do find a link I will let you know.

Hi Irene.  I have a new interest in the St Mungo's and Applegarth parishes as I have found new family members for my tree.  I was looking at the area also as it is not an area I am familiar with.  I don't know if you are aware but there is a very useful site called ScotlandsPlaces.  It has the Place Name books of all the areas with input for the Ordnance Survey from local people.  I have found a Little Skellyholm on page 4 Volume 45 Dumfriesshire. Hope that helps.
