Can anyone suggest where I can find a picture of the house at Locherbank, Kilbarchan, Renfrewshire from about 1911. Tried the local council site & they supplied a map, but didn`t have a picture. The building no longer exists. My granny was in service there when she came over from Ireland. Would love to see where she worked. Many thanks, Graham.

This may give some links to where you could look/contact, such as the national Trust
http://www.ainslie.org.uk/genealogy/kilbarchan/history.htm
I would research and see if there are any photographic societies or archives in the local area, contact any FH societies or Historic groups who may know where to find any

I will check in the Old Library Centre in the village for you. They have many old photos of the area. I suspect that it was nearer the present day area of Houston although still Kilbarchan Parish as Locher is used in many street names in Houston.

Belated thanks carolineasb. Sorry for delay in replying, but I have been away for the past week. Hopefully you will be lucky.

Sorry I haven't managed to go in yet but will do this week.

Hi carolineasb, No problem. Just when ever you can manage. Thanks again.

Hi there, sadly I haven't been able to go into the Old Library yet as I had to have an op and have been in hospital :( however, I had put a query on a local Facebook page and folks seem to think that it may be one of the houses now owned by the Bridge of Weir Leatherworks (I think it may be called Muirhead or Andrew Muirhead Leather). They lie between Kilbarchan and Bridge of Weir. The works are on one side of the road and the house(s) are used for meetings etc on the other side of the road. You may be able to get some information by emailing the works.

Hi Caroline, I hope you`re now better after your op. When the council sent me the copy of the 1863 map they stated that the building was now demolished. I also contacted a local family history group, but never heard back from them. I have attached the map to allow you to see where the house once was. Regards, Graham.

Getting there, thank you!
On your old map it shows Penneld and Manswrae. At present, in between these two are a few older houses on the right hand side heading for Bridge of Weir including the one I referred to which is owned by the Leatherworks. If you Google Pannell Farm, Kilbarchan (which is a b&b) it should bring up a map and Street view (which is orientated heading for Bridge of Weir) and you can see the road.
I do think it may be worth emailing or writing to the Leatherworks, just in case they have pictures in Locher House of the house and nearby area.

Thanks again Caroline. I have sent off a message to the leatherworks & hopefully they will reply back to me. Cheers, Graham.
