The family story is that my grandfathers brother John (no middle name) Maguire was not married and suffered hearing loss due to operating heavy guns or artillery in WW1.  Is it possible that this John from Belturbet is the one I am looking for?  I know the age at death is slightly out but its close.
Which local paper for this area would death notices be in?
I have been unable to find any of the family on any census.  I have listed the family below.

Robert Maguire and Jane Mc Donnell Married 1872
The children were

Susan
Born 1873-
Killowen Street, Coleraine.

Jane
Born 1875-
Upper New Row, Coleraine.

Robert
Born1877-
Boyds Row, Coleraine.

Maggie
Born 1879-
Laurel Hill,Coleraine.

Robert
1881-1959
Shuttle Hill, Coleraine.

John
Born 1884-
Shuttle Hill, Coleraine.

Patrick
Born 1886-
Shuttle Hill, Coleraine.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks for that Hallmark.
That looks like the same source I got my information from and it might be just a coincidence that he fits the profile so well but how do I check if he is my grandfathers brother.

Are there any family stories about John Maguire moving to Fermanagh/Cavan area? is he supposed to have died around 1959? Worth checking with descendants of other children in case they have different information that would help find the correct John Maguire.

Yes this John would be the correct age but his brother Robert had no middle name and lived 1881-1959.  He is buried in Our Lady's Acre Newtownabbey.  So it would appear not to be the correct John.
Thanks.

Thanks for this great find dathai.  This Susan is the eldest sister of John Maguire.  She was married in Trinity Church Belfast 20th November 1894 at the age of about 21 years.  It is likely that the whole family moved from Coleraine to Belfast sometime before 1894.  Its likely this is where I will find John.
Thanks again.

Thanks again dathai.
The Maguire family moved to Belfast sometime between Susan's brother Patrick’s birth in 1886 and Susan’s marriage in1894.
On the record of his wedding on 3rd July 1909 Robert (her brother), is recorded as living at 11 Milewater Street, Belfast which is close to Cosgrave Street.
Its likely that the whole family were living in and around this area but I am unable to find any census records, death or burial records for the rest of the family.

Thanks dathai,
This is Susan the eldest of Johns siblings living in Mountcolleyer Road in 1901 then Cosgrove street in 1911.
I have found what appears to be her brothers Patrick and John living in a boarding house 33.2 Henry Street (Dock Ward) in 1911.
I cannot find any record of John and the family on the 1901 census records.  Though they must have been somewhere in Belfast at that time. (Susan was married in Belfast in 1894)
It appears less and less likely that the John Maguire from Co Cavan is the correct one.

The address in 1911 for John & Patrick is 3 Henry St. & John's birthplace listed as Co. Antrim-

Thanks aghadowey,
You are correct the house number is 3.  Its the number on form B. that's 33.
They have both given their place of birth as Co Antrim but there are often mistakes on the census.  I believe these, the two youngest of the family left Coleraine at a very young age and may not have any memories of Coleraine.  John and Patrick living together not far from other members of the family and both the correct age makes it likely they are the correct Maguires.
I believe they moved to Belfast sometime between Johns birth in 1886 and the eldest sister Susans wedding  to John Cameron in Belfast 1894 though I cannot find them on the 1901 census.
I cannot find either of the parents (Robert & Jane nee McDonnell) on the 1901 or 1911 census.  They may well be living with their other daughters or possibly have died before 1901.
Thanks again.

Last address mentioned is Shuttle Hill, Coleraine in 1886. Have you checked the valuation revision books to see when the family might have left there?

Not sure if this has been mentioned but a Jane Maguire, age 40, died Coleraine district/sub-district 29 Jan.1886

Patrick born 14 Aug.1886 so the above now ruled out

Thanks again for that aghadowey,

Her age is appropriate but the date of her death if accurate is about 8 months too early.
Jane Maguire's maiden name was McDonnell.  That rules out your other suggestion.
Thanks again.

Hi again,

My mother remembers meeting a relative who wore a Kilt and died in ww2 in Madagascar.
I checked the war graves site to find the cemetery and then checked the list of graves.
I found
Thomas Cameron
Rank;            Serjeant
Service No;    3127208
Age;              35
Regiment;      Royal Scots Fusiliers, 2nd Bt
Cemetery;      Diego Suarez
Son of John and Susan Cameron, husband of Martha Cameron of Coleraine, Co Londonderry, Northern Ireland.

This has got to be the son of John and Susan Cameron (Jane's Eldest Daughter)of 89 Mountcollyer Road in the 1901 census.  Thomas is recorded as aged 35 years in 1942 making his DOB about 1907.  He should show up in the 1911 census when the family were living in Cosgrove/Cosgrave street.  Unfortunately this street is missing from the 1911 census (thanks dathai) so I am unable to confirm 100 per cent.
So it seems that he at least, ended up back in Coleraine before ultimately Madagascar.
What a surprise!

Thanks very much dathai and aghadowey.
My mother will be surprised to hear all this information.  Its a bit of a coincidence that Susan's son ended up in Coleraine.  I think that's all of Susan's family identified.
I am currently sending for the seaman's records for Susan's two brothers, Robert and Patrick.  This is turning into a real jigsaw puzzle of information.
If I can find the death records for her brother John (not a seaman unfortunately) who was born 01/05/1884 I can apply for his ww1 military records.  The problem with John is that he didn't marry and so no children and records will be few.
Thanks again to all.
