Where and when did he marry? If in Scotland, it should name his parents.
Tullyvallen Newtownhamilton
What religion was he?

A death in Scotland should also list names of his parents.

The Tithe Applotments list the following Smith/Smyths in Newtownhamilton Parish at 1830:
Smith, Frank Tullyagallaghan
Smith, Henry Tullyagallaghan
Smith, Jonathan, Esq. Camoly Ball/Camoly Stripe
Smith, Paul Tullyagallaghan
Smith, Thomas Altnamighan
Smyth, Saml. Tullyvallon Hamilton
Smyth, Willm. Tullyvallon Hamilton
and as can be seen, at least two were in Tullyvallon.

A Robert Smyth of Tullyvallen died in 1853 and letters of administration were granted to his wife Sarah and son John. They and other sons are named in the will, which can be viewed on PRONI website.

Thanks everyone,
It was John who came to Ayrshire,I forgot to say that his Father was a James Smith,Johns death cert only gives Father James as does marriage cert, can't find anything else, unsure as to religion but was most probably protestant.
