Title: Harriet Escritt 1844 - 1919 search for burial
Post by: josey on Monday 03 April 17 12:00 BST (UK)
For a Canadian friend I am looking for a burial and any obituary for Harriet Escritt formerly D'Arcy formerly Smith nee Monkman. I have her death certificate. She died 15 Jun 1919 at 15 Flora Avenue, Carlton Street Kingston-upon-Hull. Age stated to be 78, informant is L Dealtry daughter [Lilian Dealtry nee D'Arcy born 1879 died 1929]. Actually baptised 17 Apr 1844 in Appleton le Street, daughter of John Monkman & Harriet [possibly Brown].

I have looked in the newspapers on findmypast, deceased online & findagrave with no success. Can anyone please suggest any other resources to research? Where is the nearest cemetery to Carlton Street & who would hold the archive? Sub-district according to Yorkshirebmd is Hessle.

I have made a list of the descendants of Lilian that I can identify from freebmd etc. I will try to locate them online in case they know where Harriet is buried.

Thanks in advance, Josey

Hi Josey....as you have the date of death....I suggest that you contact Hull Bereavement Services....they should be able to tell where she was buried, the contact details are at the bottom of the page. I would think possibly Division Road Cemetery which would have been the nearest, it was only a small cemetery which closed a few years ago.
I can't post a link as I am on the iPad.

Thank you very much Carol. I will get my Canadian friend to email as she is a direct descendant of Harriet. I have sent her the link.
