On the 1891 they are in Rutherglen, Glasgow with Jane LESLIE, 64, poss Joan's mother, and George W LESLIE, 22, poss Joan's brother. Joan was 30, John G was 7.

Looks like Joan later married John KERRIGAN according to the 1901.  There is also a half sister Mary Ann Jane KERRIGAN, 6.  They are still in Glasgow.

Have you looked at his marriage or death certificate for possible clues ?

All it says on birth certificate is illegitimate and he kept mothers name, she was very young and obviously very difficult in those times to have an illegitimate child and keep it but I'm not sure where to start and as she was down as a servant I wouldn't have thought there were many households who had servants

Quite a lot of your ancestry here. Both have the surname Leslie, wonder if related distantly?

That's great, I think it's strange having the same name but I think joanahh having a child at such a young age would set tongues wagging and a small chance we might be able to find out who the father was
