My Great Grandfather, Petro/Pietro Adolphus LUSARDI possibly sailed from Southampton, UK, to New York in 1906 at the age of 29. He appears on the UK 1901 census as a waiter in London. I have tried everything I can to find out what happened to him when he arrived in the US but this is a huge brick wall. He may not even have known that he had a child on the way. My Grandfather always said that his dad took one look at him and disappeared but I'm not sure. My Great Grandmother, Ellen PARKER took the name LUSARDI but I don't even know if they were married. I'm hoping to find someone who is tracing their branch of the LUSARDI family and who has a missing link back in the UK maybe.

There's a family tree with another Lusardi child born in Middlesex 1909 so he must have come back (unless that child had a different father)
-
Oh here's a possible marriage Camberwell Dec 1904
Lusardi Peter Frank D
Parker Ellen
-
I'm new to this as of today. Please can you tell me how to locate the family tree
-
It's on the ancestry website but the owner of the tree has the same name as you so maybe it was one you did previously?
There is a photograph of Ellen and son Petro on it.
-
Also a workhouse record Strand Union for Ellen and son Petro which says "wife of a waiter"
Admission date is 1 August 1910.
-
Ah found the birth for the other child
Lusarde Catherine
Jun 1909 Hendon
Mothers maiden name Parker
so unless that isn't true the father didn't stay in New York permanently from 1906 - unless Ellen went out there too.
-
Have you got a passenger list for the father going to New York in 1906?
There's a Kathleen Lusardi age 2 which could be Catherine in Strand Union Workhouse.
-
Thank you for all this. Yes, it's my tree that I'm currently working on. I do have a passenger list with him on, and the arrivals bit but then it goes completely cold. The marriage between Ellen and Peter (maybe it is Pietro!) is so interesting and I've just ordered the certificate. I also have all the records of when she, her son and daughter were in the workhouse too. Interestingly Catherine has the name LUSARDI but her birth certificate has no father on
-
So it does look like he sailed off then doesn't it and Catherine had a different unknown father :-\
If he wasn't named on the birth despite using the Lusardi name then probably never going to find out.
If Catherine married I wonder if she named a father then?
-
One of the workhouse entries has "alias Parker" for Ellen and in the Married column for her and daughter it says "h.s.d" I wonder what that meant?!
-
On family search there is a Peter Lasardi on the 1910 US census age 39 single lodger born Italy
date of immigration 1906
And I think it says for occupation waiter in a restaurant - could that be him??
-
Catherine emigrated to the US and never married. I don't know what h.s.d could mean but I'll have a think. And I think that could be him! Oh my goodness! Where do you think I can go from here? It would be simply amazing for my dad if I've found his grandfather!
-
I'm not finding anything else - yet and have to log off now but will have another look later :)
Keep looking in the US on family search and you might find him on a later census. He could be lodging with the same family or I suppose he could even have gone back to Italy. Many possibilities!

The 1901 census puts his birth year around 1871/1872.

The one on the 1906 passenger list looks like his surname was Lucardi. There is a Pietro Lucardi who looks to be around the same age who died in California in 1918, who might be a possibility - https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QK91-17GS

1910 census: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MVL1-5HK
The San Francisco city directory from 1913 has Lusardi, Peter, waiter, resides 9 Park, who may be the same guy.
The 1917 Stockton, California city directory has a Peter Lusardi, chef, resides 42 S. Am. Not sure if he's the same guy who was in San Francisco, but maybe.
