Title: Photo storage programme.
Post by: polidor on Saturday 08 April 17 22:37 BST (UK)
Since i lost all files and programmes from my laptop i had to have it reconfigured and no longer have Picassa. I have luckily, got about 50% of my photos on a backup disc and have downloaded them back onto the p.c again. Unfortunately they are in no particular order and need reorganising.

I've looked on line for a programme similar to Picassa as this now seems unavailable. Most of the programmes i've looked at seem to be to far too fussy for my needs. I just want to be able to store my pics by date, upload from a camera or phone and crop some photos when required and email some now and again.
Has anyone some suggested programmes for me [simple ones ]-----thanks from poli

Well---i had a look at the site and it doesn't seem what i'm looking for. I don't want to have to sign in and give email addresses. I just want to open the programme from a desktop shortcut and look at my photos and be able to crop or alter them if i need to and maybe send copies by email etc.

Thanks for replying to my query though .  poli

This one comes up in lists of Picasa replacements

I haven't tried it yet, but I have used their screen capture tool and it was very good

Hi Poli,

The main photo storage/sharing sites are listed at http://www.techlicious.com/guide/best-photo-sharing-sites/ (http://www.techlicious.com/guide/best-photo-sharing-sites/). Not all sites offer photo-editing features. There also other general file storage websites like Dropbox, Box, etc. where you can can create folders and upload and download photo's (as well as other files). But websites in this category are not specifically geared to photo and don't have photo editors as far as I know.

By the sound of it GooglePhotos would seem a good option: almost unlimited storage space and a free, easy-to-use editor online to crop and adjust your photo's. Flickr might be a good alternative (storage + editing). At the moment the Flickr photo editor in unavailable. No idea for how long.

Wherever you store your photo's you'll need to create an account and sign in at least once. Most sites have a 'remember me' box on their sign-in sites so that you're then signed in automatically whenever you visit the website. So you can create a link to the website on your desktop, for example. Clicking on this link takes you to the website where you're automatically signed-in and can view, edit and upload photos.

But write the sign-in password down somewhere. If at some point, someone cleans up the 'cookies' on your desktop, the automatic sign-in won't work until you sign-in again and click on the 'remember me' box.

With GooglePhotos and Flickr you can set the 'sharing options' for all or some albums and even for individual photo's. The most usual option is 'people who I send a link to can view but not edit my photos'.

Hope this helps,

Mike

Mike ----i had a look at the website you mentioned and i don't think they are what i am looking for. A couple of the suggested sites say they can use your photos unless you make a point of asking to keep them private. All the sites i've come across are too 'fussy' i'm looking for something simple.

I'm not sure i'm going to find what i want and will probably just have to accept one of the photo storage websites around and put up with it.  :-\

matthewj64-----had a look at the one you suggested and thought i might give it a try and when i attempted to download it a 'warning' of sorts came on screen saying that the website hadn't got a verified author---??? and did i still want to download ---i decided not to.

Am still searching for a simple Picassa lookalike  ;D   poli

Ashampoo Photo Commander will do what you require. Bear in mind that the likes of Picasa and the one mentioned are not photo storage programs, they are merely just a large shortcut to all your photos stored in your photo library.

If you're using Windows, why not start with Windows Office Picture Manager (or whatever they're calling it in your current Windows.)

It crops, straightens, brightens etc in a pretty basic way - I donate photos to a "graveyard" site, and it's always been adequate for that.
I arrange my pics in folders that I choose, using Windows Explorer.

I don't like picasa at all - it makes me look at my photos in ITS arrangement, not mine!
