Hi,
I'm researching my 2x great grandmother and have asked for help over in the Somerset Forum as I believe that is where she was born. However she married in Hartley Whitney, Odiham and I am looking for a parish register record of the marriage. Amelia Ann Bush To James Bohee born 1837 married in June 1864. I have no idea who her parents were but James's father was Daniel Bohee sometimes spelt Bohey or Bohea.
Can anyone help or point me in the right direction. I am looking for the marriage to see who her father was.
Many thanks.

You could order a copy of the marriage certificate to get more information.
Mar 1864 Hartley W.
Volume 2c Page 209
Bohee James
Bush Amelia

I realise that but I was trying to save a few dollars by trying to find something online first. I have ordered her death cert here in New Zealand (where she died) in the hope that may point me in the right direction. Thanks for your reply though.

Have you seen this 1861 census in Odiham
Stephen Redburn 50
Sarah Redburn 42
Amelia Bush daughter unmarried 19 born Wellow Somerset
Sorry didn't realise you were in NZ.
-
Thanks.....yes I have that and the 1851 one that has an Amelia Bush in the Bath Union Workhouse. There is also another family that could tie in but without her parents names I am stuck, that's why I was hoping to find a Parish register.
I also have the 1871 census after her marriage to James Bohee with her children. They came to NZ in 1873 and I can track her from that arrival.

Finding a birth would help as we could find out mothers maiden name but I can't seem to find one :-\
I wonder if she was adopted by the Redburn couple or maybe Sarah was her mother before she married - will have a look :)
-
Not having much luck :(
There's a Milly Bush birth registered Dec 1840 Bath. Milly could be Amelia. Mothers maiden name Crees.
Baptism for her Wellow Somerset 17 Jan 1841 parents Joseph labourer & Rebecca **
** Sarah Rebecca Crees
Toddling off down the road here forgive me :D but I wonder if Sarah Bush marries Stephen Redburn because there is a Joseph Bush death 1844 and a Sarah Bush marriage 1853 where one of the 3 grooms is missing.
Stephen and Rebecca aka Sarah are together in Cove Hampshire 1881. She is born same place as Amelia.
1871 transcribed as Padburn again in Cove and Sarah this time.
Death for Sarah R Radbourne 1886 age 67.
-
Well if Milly is your Amelia here she is in 1841 Wellow Somerset
Transcribed as Bash
Joseph 45
Rebecca 20
George 2 - baptism 1839 possible death 1847 age 9
Milly 6 months
If it isn't then I'm really sorry for making you read through all this!

I presume it is the Bath one you are looking at - to eliminate
From BathBMD
BUSH Sarah (also indexed as Sarah Evans)
DOWLING George
Bath, St James Bath C4/3/295

Thanks again ebpveryone for trying to help. I had found the Milly birth and did wonder if it was her. I have sheets of paper with the various scenarios but as you all have said without the names of her parents we are stuck. Silly me had hoped a Parish register would have answered all my questions.
Millipede.......I loved your expression of toddling off down the road.......I use it all the time!!!! Must be my English heritage shining through lol

1851 census
Sarah Bush head 23 widow dressmaker Wilts Bishopstown
Stephen Rodborn 39 visitor married farm labourer Marlborough
Sheppards Buildings , Marlborough
I can't see a marriage for the couple.
-
Sarah's indexed as Buth on Ancestry!
Might be a complete coincidence but there's a Stephen Rodbourn b 1847, d1849 in Marlborough. Mmn is Bird
-
Which links to this marriage - might be why we can;t find one for him and Sarah Rebecca
Stephen Rodburn
Elizabeth Bird
Marriage 19 Dec 1832, Preshute
-
Actually, it looks like Elizabeth Rodbourn died in q3 1847, aged 34, which fits with Stephen jnr's birth. So maybe it's Joseph Bush who was the impediment.
-
I have just posted this over in the Somerset group. Millipede, you were correct in finding that birth for a Milly Bush.

I'm not sure about this one......although the names are right, other things are wrong.....Sarah's age and where she was born. My Sarah was born 1820, Bath, Somerset. On this census it has her as being born Wilts, Bishoptown but that was where Stephen was born not Marlborough as on census. Hope that makes sense. She was 8 yrs younger than Stephen on the 1861 census which does fit.

Groom missing here but marriage Bath 5c 1274a

Rebecca Bush
We know she was Sarah Rebecca - can anyone find the groom for this marriage?

I found a Rebecca Bush marrying a Jerimaiah Love in 1859 on Bath BMD
-
Rebecca/Rebekah and Jeremiah are together on later censuses. she's b Wellow c1838. her father, according to the marriage register, was George Bush. She's on 1851 with him and her mother Caroline

it's only this one she's listed as Bishoptown - the rest of the time she's from Wellow. Enumerators are quite good at mixing things up to confuse us! Given Amelia is with them in 1861 they seem good candidates
-
Thanks for that......I guess I now should try and find the birth of Sarah Rebecca Creese to a George Crees and ?! .
I have found the banns......2 lots and a marriage for Sarah and Joseph Bush. He was much older than her and I am guessing that the marriage didn't go ahead after the first lot of banns in 1838 but did the 2nd time, probably because she was pregnant with her first born George in 1839.
Gee this family sure know how to keep me awake at night lol
-
There's a George and Martha Crees(e) baptising children in Wellow from 1802 - 1823, but no Sarah rebecca, sadly
-
Joseph and Rebecca have a third child James, baptised Wellow 11 Feb 1844 and buried there 13 Oct the same year.
-
Looks like his father died very soon after his birth
Joseph Bath [image says Bush - James' death also indexed as Bath on Ancestry]
51
Burial 25 Feb 1844, Wellow
Burial was by coroner's warrant - visitation of God

I think this maybe him.....what on earth does it mean though......coroners warrant......was it an unexplained death?!
-
It also said "visitation of God" - tends to mean a sudden unexplained/unexpected death by natural causes (stroke, heart attack etc). Coroner would be involved but often no autopsy to clarify matters

Thanks Mabel.....that what I thought.

I have added more information about Amelia over in the Bath message board

Thanks for any help or help already given :)

Great news......the Milly birth cert proves she is mine👍 Registered as Milly Bush, born 27 Nov 1840. Parents are Joseph Bush and Rebecca Sarah Bush maiden name Crees, (Crease). I can now finalise all her details so that I can inform the Otaki Cemetery records office of all dates.
Amelia (Milly) sure had a hard life.
Thank you all so much for your help, I couldn't have got this sorted without you.
Warm regards to you all.
