Title: Thomas LAVINGTON, born Trowbridge 1835/36
Post by: BAC3 on Thursday 13 April 17 17:33 BST (UK)
Hello,

I wonder if someone could kindly confirm or otherwise if the Thomas LAVINGTON who died during the 3rd quarter of 1863 in the Melksham District is the same person in the above caption. Fuller details of his family are available according to the 1841 England Census at reference HO107/1182/14/6, p.5.

Thank you for the moment,

Tony

According to the GRO website for 1863, the Thomas Lavington who died in Melksham was 69 years old, the one who died in Devizes was 57.

Does this help?

Criminal records show that he received a sentence of 7 years transportation. Do you know if his sentence was commuted?

Hello STG,

Thank you.   It helps from the point of view that, if the above Thomas LAVINGTON did not die in 1863 when he would have been aged 27, what happened to him from 06/08/1855 after he was released on licence from Dartmoor Prison ??? ???  He appeared not to re-offend but it seems his family were quite a load of rascals!!

Please Note Rosie17:   He was originally sentenced for Highway Robbery on 08/03/1851 at New Sarum Assizes, then via Millbank Prison, Parkhurst Prison and finally Dartmoor Prison.

For the moment,

Tony
