Title: Issidora Joakis Gonyie Born Portugul
Post by: kazales on Friday 14 April 17 12:15 BST (UK)
Good evening all , I am trying to find information on my 4th great grandmother named Issidora Joakis Gonyie maybe born in Portugal.

She had one child, 'George Gonyie Bowe' to my 4th great grand father 'George Osbaldiston Bowe' on the 23.11.1799 at Shilbottle Northumberland England. 3 years later he married Smith Scott and had 2 more children.

I cannot find any birth, marriage or death information for Issidora anywhere.

Can anyone point me in the right direction - particularly for Portuguese birth records.

I would be grateful for any help  :D Kaz

Hi kazales,

Isidora (or Izidora) is an uncommon Portuguese name, but it exists. Joakis Gonyie are definetely not literal Portuguese surnames, maybe adaptations.
In order to find out more about her, you would need to know the parish where she was born.
The best place to look for Portuguese records is: https://goo.gl/WnlK61 (although some districts are inacessible); you can also use http://tombo.pt/en which has lower quality images, but more available records.
If I can help you further, please say so!

Cheers

I would suggest the name 'Gonyie' was written as it sounded to the cleric and could well be Gonye - both Issidora/Izidora and Gonye seem to be Hungarian/Slovakian also Joakis.
