Title: Matthew Parsons Houghton 1818-1884 My great x2 Grandfather
Post by: mjwatts1960 on Thursday 20 April 17 23:33 BST (UK)
This man moved all over the place.
he was born in Birmingham Warwickshire 21 Dec 1818
baptised in St. Thomas Dudley Worcestershire 8 Jun 1832
married Ann Baker St. Pauls Bunhill Row, Finsbury, London 11 Nov 1843
had Ada (my great grandmother), Mary Jane, Mary Jane, Ellen Maria, Dudley John, Elizabeth Ruth, Ruth and Agnes in many different cities and counties of England and Wales.
and died in Pantasaph, Holywell, Flint in Wales 18 Oct 1884.
I need someone to confirm he was also in the USA in New York I believe and had more children there.
I need to know who his father and mother were and how far back the Houghton line can be traced.
Can anyone find the exact date of birth for Ada whose middle name was Mary I believe.
My grandmother always said Ada was a descendant of the Blessed John Houghton a monk and one of the forty martyrs who was executed for not signing Henry VIII Act of Supremacy but that who 300 years earlier in the 1530s. I realise as a monk she was not a direct descendant.

Hi

Can you add some details of the childrens birthyears.  You show 2 daughters called Mary Jane - did one die?

Where was Ada born and was her birth registered?  www.freebmd.org.uk  Buying a copy of her birth cert will give you her birthdate

What facts are you working from?  What is the timescale when you think he was in the USA - pre or post 1843 marriage?

You already have that information from his birth and baptism details on Family search

You have still not replied to the question I asked in my first reply - my reply above asked you to read it again and you don't appear to have done so

I am going on the facts that were given to me by a rootschat researcher about ten years ago. I canīt remember what the time frame was but I think it was 1840s to 1860s.

Can you remember your old user name?

If not - you can use the "Search" facility on the large brown toolbar above and search under Matthew Parsons Houghton or just Matthew Houghton

If you do remember your old user name you can add it to the search

Your great grandmother Ada Mary Houghton - her birth was registered in the Sept.quarter 1863 Chorlton and she was actually named as Mary Ada Houghton - GRO Index on their site shows mothers maiden name was Baker.

At least you can now apply for her birth certificate to confirm her birthdate.

Dear Annette

Thank you for this information

Your great grandmother Ada Mary Houghton - her birth was registered in the Sept.quarter 1863 Chorlton and she was actually named as Mary Ada Houghton - GRO Index on their site shows mothers maiden name was Baker.

Is there any information on the GRO about who the father was?

Also some records have Adaīs birth place as Manchester but Chorlton according to Google Map is a long way from Manchester.

The GRO index/freebmd is purely childs name and reference number to enable you to order a copy of the birth cert.  Any fathers name will only be on the birth cert

Hi mjwatts 1960,

Matthew Parsons Houghton was my great grandfather. My grandfather was Murtaugh, the baby born in the USA. I've been going through boxes of Houghton family stuff and have come across some interesting things. I will try to attach one to this. I also have a family tree that starts in 1685 (so not far enough back to include Blessed John Houghton!)down to my fathers generation which includes Murtaugh and Ada's children.

Hope this gets to you, I see the posts were nearly 4 years ago!
