Hi there. I'm stuck in researching my family history, as I can't find any more information about my ancestors who lived in Culross, Perthshire. Their surname is BRAND, and I know of George Brand (1816-1875) who was a convict and transported to Australia. His siblings were Jean (1808-), David (1810-), Janet (1813-), Elisabeth (1815-) and Euphemia (1818-). They were all baptised in the Culross area, and would like to know what happened to them after George left Scotland in 1855 with his wife Isabella Duncan and four children. Their parents are Janet Spittal (son of a David Spittal) and David Brand, who married in 1806.
George Brand (Jr) was a convict transported to WA from Scotland in 1855 for theft. He was married to a woman named Isabella Duncan, and lived at a property called 'Ironbarks' in Greenough. He had four children before he left Scotland; David, George, Isabella, and Andrew. He had a son, John, in Australia. His daughter, Isabella, married Henry Fletcher Waldeck, son of Frederick Waldeck and Fredericka Kneist I believe, other pioneers of the Greenough Area. George (the convict) met his death when he sustained injuries from a vehicle accident in 1875.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thank you.

Hi EB,
Not too sure if you've progressed since posting?
A quick search on SP (Statutory Deaths) & dates left blank gives 11 for surname Brand with 'District' option 'Culross' with leaving 'County' option as 'All'.
It isn't a common name i.e. searches on SP not too time consuming for BMDs & of course the index is now free.
Some deaths for names on your list with possible matches close with your dates supplied...
BRAND JANE 57
1861
343/ 17 Culross (Perth)
BRAND ELIZABETH 83
1889
343/ 14 Culross (Perth)
BRAND EUPHEMIA 78

There are other potential relatives from the search returns.

Hello
George and Isabella Brand are my 3rd great grandparents, with their son David being my 2nd great grandfather. I am very interested in making contact regarding this family. I've never actually assigned parents to George as I have been unable to confirm between two highly possible families. As such I don't have the information you require but would really love to discuss this family.
Thanks
Megan

Thanks for that, Annie!
Sorry for the late reply.
I will have a look on Scotland's People and see if I can find anything else :)

Happy to exchange emails. Are you the E Brand on a Perth and Western Australia Genealogy Facebook group? If so we have chatted on Facebook.
