Title: Gee-Heffernan
Post by: Ruth Reeves on Wednesday 26 April 17 19:00 BST (UK)
Great grandfather, Pierce Gee was married in Dungarvin to Mary Heffernan around 1860. They had 3 children, James, John, and Catherine. I cannot find any record of a birth for Pierce Gee. He has proven to be the most elusive ancestor I have, on all sides of my family. We show a death for him, we think it's him, in 1871 showing him to be 80 years old which means he was born in 1791. He died in Ireland so we don't want to confuse him with any of the Pierce Gees that happen to have moved to the states.

Any assistance I can get would be awesome. We are up against a wall here.

Thanks!

I have. I'm not finding anything. Maybe he wasn't born in Waterford at all. Unfortunately, no one knows where he was born.

Have you looked at Wills?

There's a John inheriting from his Uncle...

Welcome Ruth  ;)

The death certificate may help you. It would be worth purchasing as I don't think it is online.

 Family Search shows this:

Pierce Gee, Ballymacart.

Ruth,

I can see John in some published trees in Wales in 1911. What happened to Mary and her children Catherine and James?

I'm not sure what happened to Mary, as far as when she died or where. James died when he was about a year and half old, Catherine is another unknown.

Hallmark:   I do have the will information. But if that is my grandfather John, then he was 6 years old when his Uncle Thomas died. I guess he could be the beneficiary or the executor but not sure.

Thanks to everyone who has posted and helped me find way.  Ruth

What occupation does John give for his father on his marriage certificate?

He listed it as labourer but when John got married his father was deceased. He also listed his father's name as Peary Gee even though on the civil birth record for John,  it shows Pierce.

Would that name be meant to be Percy ?

No, not Percy. It shows as Pierce on John, Catherine, and Jame's birth record as well as the marriage record for Pierce and Mary Heffernan. However, I was playing with the idea that maybe it was John Pierce Gee or James Pierce Gee or something along those lines. I just don't know.
