Have you looked for a birth/marriage or death for him?  Have you Googled him as there seems to be a large amount of info about the Luton hat trade online

Have you looked for him on any census? There is a possible candidate on the 1911

The crystal ball's a bit cloudy this morning.

There are ten Walter Gurney entries in Luton registration district on www.freebmd.org.uk, from 1897 onwards. Some or none of these may be yours, but of course he may have been born elsewhere and moved to Luton.

Without a clue as to which century you're looking for it's impossible to answer your questions. You must know more about him than this.

Hi.

Best bet is to Google the company. Various site list the director's who I won't name here as current .
Then family trees on ancestry have lines leading back to a Walter b @1878 in Eaton Bray Bedfordshire. It gives a date of 1937 for his death.
