I am trying to trace George Ashton
Born between 17 March 1818 - 16 March 1819 in Kent , England. He died aged 76 on 16 March 1895 at age 76 - Christchurch, New Zealand.
His death certificate lists Kent, England as place of birth but does not provide a birth date, or his parents names.
I know he first came out to Australia on a Whaling Ship (as a Sea Merchant - mariner) 'Sussex' Barge in 1849ish, and by September 1850 he was employed by the Canterbury Association to help survey and set up Canterbury for the first settlers fleets. He lived in Little Akaloa, NZ for many years farming and married Charlotte Brucey Wisdom (the Widow of John Bennett, pioneer of NZ).
Any insight on how I can find the link back to Kent, Uk would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Dani

Do you know if George was married while he was in the U.K.? As there are two possible George Aston's showing in the 1841 census and one of them is married.

Hi Panda40
Thanks for your reply. I believe he was single - (although I could be wrong...)
I assume by 1851 he would not appear on the census so that should hopefully eliminate which George it is.
Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi Panda
Did you get my message above - are you able to provide the details on the George Ashton who is not married.
Kind regards
Danielle

Sorry for the delay, trying to clear my desk before I go on holiday.
The 1841 census is searchable in family search. I have attached the search I carried out
https://familysearch.org/search/record/results?count=20&query=%2Bgivenname%3AGeorge~%20%2Bsurname%3AAshton~%20%2Bbirth_place%3AKent~%20%2Bbirth_year%3A1810-1825~%20%2Brecord_country%3AEngland&collection_id=1493745
