Title: marriage and death of Matthias Coy and Katharina Strube
Post by: JDC on Wednesday 03 May 17 23:19 BST (UK)
Hello everyone,

I am looking for the marriage of Matthias Coy and Katharina Strube. I believe Mathias was born in Habitzheim, Grand Dutchy Hesse-Darnstadt, Germany, Europe and moved to Karlsruhe at some point likely i n the 1840s and he died there in 1856. It appears they both passed on in Karlsrue. She appears to have died in Their 1st born happened in 1845 so I suspect Mattias and Katrine maried shortly before then. I suspect they married around the age of 20, so would be around 1825 the pair were born.

Any assistance with this would be gr8ly appreciates.

Hi JDC

There is a Matthias Coy living in Karlsruhe. As Coy is a relative rare name it could possibly be a distant relative. https://www.xing.com/profile/Matthias_Coy

Good luck, regards Peonie

Here´s another Coy in Karlsruhe

Dorothee Coy  - Übersetzungsbüro (Translator) in Karlsruhe
Bahnhofstr. 13
76137 Karlsruhe

0172 7633735

If she´s a translator she should speak English. Try your luck

Ancestry has an index of the Karlsruhe marriages, no documents unfortunately
The spelling also varies, transcription errors,
Coy, Loy, Foy
Strübe, Strebe, Streb

Matthäus Coy married Katharina Strübe on the 20 May 1850 in Karslruhe.

Matthäus
father, Ambrosius Coy
mother Magaretha Coy

Katharina
father,  Christian Strübe

Matthäus died on the 23 march 1856 aged 39

I also found some records from three of their children.
Let me know if you are interested

Hello all,

I am still attempting to trace this Coy family back. I do know now that Katharina and Matthaus did have 9 children: Madelena (1846), Phillip (1847), Christian (1849), Luise (1850), Katherina (1851), Wilhelm (1852), Franz Karl (1854), Lina (?) and Knabe (1855). I believe Matthaus was born in Habitzheim in 1816 and Katherina during 1830 in Karlsruhe. Matthaus died young in 1856 and Kathrina in 1894. So far I have not been able to track down Matthaus' parents.  I believe that Katharina's parents are Christine Bendler and Johann ? Strube. Many of  thier children died young.

Franz Karl did migrate to Canada, but I have been unable to locate the passenger list, and similarly for his wife Mary Lenze (or variant). I believe the remaining Coy siblings remained in their birthplace  Karlsruhe Germany.

Mary is supposedly from the Berne, Sitzerland area, but that still remains to be proven. The research challenge continues.

Hi JDC,

You have a PM.  :)

Best regards,
Karen

Added: By the way, you list a child born 1855 named "Knabe". In case you are unaware: This simply means "boy" and is not a name. Just to save you wasting time searching for a kiddy with that name.  :)

I haven't found anything yet on the people you are researching, but maybe something will come up.

Hi Karen,

I was able to email the fellow in Germany and we are looking at if there is a family connection or not. I thought Knabe meant baby, so thank you for the clarification. I did find his death information.

Thanks, JDC
