Title: What am I doing wrong
Post by: valerie1 on Saturday 06 May 17 15:57 BST (UK)
Margaret Davies
Abergele 1885
You all know her, why can't I find her is it me.
If I come to Abergele where should I go to track her
Should I give up ?
I have made friends with a lady in the the Registras  Office she had looked through every Margaret Davies with no luck ( as I have her Fathers  name )
I'm back to ask your expert  opinion, then I will file her if you think I have   Exhausted all options  exhausted you on this forum with my constant "looking for Margaret Davies " lol

Have you looked under the Registration District of St Asaph ?

Did she marry? When and where do you last have her?
If any of your previous threads have vital information please could you link and also perhaps a quick summary of what you have already?

Thanks everyone I don't want too waste people time too much  has proved elusive ,  Born 25th of November 1885 I have are in the 1891 census because she's with her family in 1901 and 1911 I cannot be 100% it's her  as the person is listed as a servant which she would've been
Reason I'm convinced she marriage was I contacted my mothers cousin (sadly deceased)
He wrote in a letter to me from Australia in which he stated  " Margaret my mothers eldest sister (Maggie) married and went to Patagonia I believe she had two
sons"of  course he only heard this from his mother so I guess it may be the case she didn't marry.
I have looked at passenger lists but without a married name that's impossible and I have kept an eye out for a Margaret Davies but that hasn't shown up.
Thanks for your replies it's well documented on here my journey of looking for her and in google lol

Daniel and Emma I have them in census I have there BC MC DC I have Margaret's BC I have her siblings BC some of there MC and some of there DC.
Iv tried putting just Margaret and her place of Birth and age and in 1911 a Margaret Leivison popped up in Derbyshire she was from Abergele age right but she had a lot of children must have married young but could not find a MC to rule it in or out. Husband not on census

As you have said she is with her parents 1891 at Peel Street.
I would say a good bet for 1901 is Market Vaults, Abergele a servant age 15 .
As you know we can't put information from the 1911 Census on here but it looks like she's still in Abergele as a servant age 25 and she is single, that narrows the marriage search down a bit. There are so many Margaret Davies marriages I can see your predicament. The only thing I can suggest is if you can't go yourself to pay the Archive for a marriage search in the St Asaph/Abergele Registers, you have her father's name Daniel so that should narrow it down a bit more  ???

EM - see my previous link. Val found this 2 years ago, I think  :)

Help and advice please before I send for this marraige certificate, can anyone look at the info to see if I'm making a blunder.
Found Maggie Davies living in Peel street Abergele 1911 census which is where she came from, married to Robert Thomas Davies her age is two years out but there seems to be some crossing out in the  Margin
She has three children, it states marraige 1904 the only marraige I can find us for a Margaret Ann in 1904 in Wrexham.
Trying not to get to excited

Thank you Ellenmia and Hello Gadget, Iv always thought this was her in the census as Iv said never can be 100% sure.
The lady in the registry office has Conwy in her emails so I think that covers St Asaph I'm not completely sure and wonder if I should look Flintshire ?
I also thought about the war and wondered if that would narrow the dates for marriage, the other thing that bothers me the last big  migration to Patagonia was 1911 that put the 1911 census in doubt
I think I have done everything possible really, I'd come to Abergele but where would I start ?

The other problem is Margret And her sisters Grace and Hannah BC they had no middle name but Grace and Hannah MC they do one is Parry there mothers family name and Hannah is Eunice so I don't think  baptismal names so if Margaret did that there are lots more Margaret Davies to choose from lol

Just thinking that, if she didn't go to Patagonia or came back, she might just be on the 1939 register. Do you have her full date of birth so that you can search on it?

Don't know whether you followed up from the 1911 that you found back in 2015, but using the new GRO site which gives mother's maiden names gives this for one of the children

DAVIES, ROSE  ANN     mother's maiden name DAVIES
GRO Reference: 1907  S Quarter
ST ASAPH
Volume 11B  Page 309

Could not find her in 1939, the Rose Ann lead mother Maggie recorded born 1883 a  little bit too early for my Margaret born 25/11/1885.
Thank you

Marriages Mar 1904
Davies    Margaret Ann
Davies    Robert Thomas
St. Asaph    11b   443

North Wales BMD is showing 2 marriages in Denbighshire that year for Margaret Davies: the one above and another for a Margaret Davies (no second name) to a Robert Davies in Wrexham. Not sure of ref but I think it was 2nd quarter, 1904.

PS - both were civil (non- CofE/W)  marriages  :-\

IF that 1911 census is the correct family, I'd think it's a good chance that the marriage I found was her.

Yes - it probably was. Valerie found that on the thread I linked to - not sure if Valerie ever bought the cert.

I was merely pointling out that there was another one.

It is worth reading the other thread - and the others that Valerie has put up about Margaret over the years. Think it's going around in circles, else!

Maybe your theory about the Patagonia family being a different cousin could be right. I found a short piece in the newspaper under Abergele (1st col, paragraph 12 titled Patagonia)
http://newspapers.library.wales/view/3880351/3880355/27/margaret%20abergele,%20patagonia

This Evans family lived in peel Street, went out to Patagonia and after spending 24 years there,  the article says were now going to Australia. You mention that you may have your Maggie living at in 1901, so it may be worth looking at that to eliminate.

In another news article, it mentions that 4 families from Abergele who had emigrated from Patagonia arrived to pick land 160 miles from Perth, one named John Evans.

Firstly i want to say thank you al,l for replying and helping me on such a worn out old thread.
I never sent for the certificate 11B 448 because of the middle name Anne' but tomorrow morning I will pick up the phone
Thought I would be really clever and look on Find my Past I can't even see it on there but can see on Ancestry weird?

Sam, I have seen that first newspaper cutting abut the Evans, not the second one, I'm sure Margaret went to Patagonia all around her in Peel Street people were going there and in the late 1800s a John Davies was there could have been a relative, It's weird the name about Evans because another distant cousin told me she married an Evans but Iv never found anything to prove this there is a Margaret Davies marrying a Bernard Evans but it's not her and I think he only spoke of things he had heard nothing he told me ever was proven.

Margaret was not about in 1920 as my mother's papers from Dr Barnardo gave a list of all the family members and their reason they could not take my mother in but Margarets name was not given by Grandmother(they were sisters)  which makes me think she was not about.

Thank You

Just  rechecked the North Wales BMD for the marriaage. The certificates are at the Rhyl Office and if you phone them, the local referennce is STASAPH/31/E135.If you speak to them, you could say that you only want it if Margaret's father's name is ... (forgotten his name). I've done this with local offices and they are usually very obliging.
