Title: New Great Grandad.
Post by: Marytm on Saturday 13 May 17 19:50 BST (UK)
I have just received a Birth Certifcate for my Grandad and have found that instead of his Dad being Samuel Arnold Handley from Birmingham born 1878 in Aston. It was a William Frederick Handley who was a tool maker. Not sure who he was .He doesn't seem to be in Richard Guy Handley's family.

Yes, Mother Martha Watts (married Samuel Arnold Handley or Arnold Samuel) Do you remember I put details of him on before? He was Illegitimate too Agnes Handley turned out to be his Mum, but we have no Dad details for him.
Eric was supposed to be his son but he died 1911 and Eric was born n 1914.Just got the birth certifcate,

My previous investigations were into Arnold Samuel Handley who turned about to be Agnes Handleys son.Richard Guy Handley was her Dad and was a French millstone maker.
Eric was supposed to be Arnold's Son.

Do you mean Eric was supposed to be Arnold's son?

Index gives Eric born 1914 MMN Watts, so if her husband dies 1911, she could have made up a name for his birth certificate.

Well she's put down William Frederick Handley a tool maker.I am hoping it is genuine and as Arnold was a Handley I am looking for a connection.

By the time she's able to be listed on the electoral register after WWI, at 6 Burbury St,  there's no obvious man of the house with her. she marries Harry Peake in Q4 1922.

Looking up on Ancestry there are a few William Frederick Handleys and lots of Frederick Williams.
I have found one in the Birmingham area whose Dad s a Tool maker (he was down as being this on birth cert) presuming he followed into his Dad's trade. Is this the way to go do you think?

My Grandad's  I have recently discovered was not Arnold Samuel Handley 1878-1911 as my Grandad was born in 1914. From his birth cert it appears it was a William Frederick Handley a Tool Maker. So conveniently although they were not married they both had the same surname.
I am not sure which William Handley he is. Martha Watts\Handley was born 1877 so I am presuming he may be from around the same date from Birmingham ?? She was living in Aston.
Maybe some relation of Arnold Samuel although I can't find a William from his Mum Agnes Handley's brothers.
