Title: Lochgilphead in the mid 1950s
Post by: LindseyB on Wednesday 17 May 17 09:53 BST (UK)
Hi, hoping someone can help here.

Trying to look for my father's family (he was illegitimate).  I think a Miss McMillan may be one of them.  She was living in Glasgow and working as a bus conductress but when she gave birth to a child (out of wedlock), she gave her address as Blarburie Farm.

I've tried Googling but can't find it.

Can anyone help decipher the name of the farm and how we find out who the farming family were?

Thanks.

Looks like Blarbuie to me. ( without the 'r')

Hi, hoping someone can help here.

Trying to look for my father's family (he was illegitimate).  I think a Miss McMillan may be one of them.  She was living in Glasgow and working as a bus conductress but when she gave birth to a child in 1957 (out of wedlock), she gave her address as Blarbuie Farm in Lochgilphead.

How do I find out whether the farming family were McMillans or whether she was in domestic service?

Thanks.

Thanks Wiggy.  On Googling, there was/is a place/hospital in Blarbuie.

The hospital was once the asylum. The farm Blarbuie is a short distance to the NE.

Thanks Geoff-E.  Nothing is showing as the farm although the satellite looks like farm buildings.  Any idea how I find out the name of the farmer in 1957?

Blar, Gaelic for the Scots Blair, means a field, in this case the Yellow Field!

Skoosh.

Electoral registers possibly?  May not give you her details if she was in service but would at least clarify the name of the family at that address in 1957
