Title: CUSACK
Post by: tmp48 on Friday 19 May 17 23:01 BST (UK)
My aunty Sheila Pollard married James Cusack  who was born in Nov 1909 Glasgow, Died in Reading, Berkshire 1984.
On their marriage Certificate in Dublin, Ireland in 1937 James's  father was Anthony Cusack, a Labourer.  One of the witnesses was  Thomas Curtin (husband of Sheila's eldest sister Christina aka Dinah). The other witness was Anne Cusack.

One of my Cusack cousins (one born in Dublin the other in Scotland) has his grandfather Anthony Cusack dying in Glasgow 1959 but no Grandmother's name.

Can anyone help with finding out who my uncle James'  mother was and also who was Anne Cusack please?  Maybe someone  in Glasgow is related to James' family?

I'm a newbie when it comes to researching in Scotland as my ancestors were from Ireland!

Regards...Teresa

You would have to buy a copy of Anthony's death cert to get that info as deaths for that period cannot be downloaded on Scotlands People

The limit for deaths is 50 years so a 1959 death should be available for download.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to your replies, but I've just been in contact with my Cusack  cousin again and discovered that he had moved.

He said he has a copy of his grandfather Anthony Cusack's Death Certificate which he is going to post to me. He was born  on 11 July 1879 in Scaheen? Westport, Co. Mayo.  I've got a copy from the free Irish website and his parent are John Cusack, Land Holder and Annie but I can't read what her maiden name was as the writing is so bad.

I told my cousin I had found an Anthony & Margaret Cusack on the 1959 Electoral Registers  at 3 Bankhall Street Glasgow S.2 and 1945 same address, Annie Cusack, Anthony and Margaret.

He also said ''The 1945 address at Bankhall street was for grandad Anthony his wife Margaret and their daughter in law Annie who was married to uncle William.  In fact another Aunt moved in with grandparents when her husband died in a dock accident her name was Margaret but known as Peggy "

Yes DOB is correct.  Trouble is his mother's name looks  more like Muyan to me!

I've also found some other births  with same parents but again mother's name is not clear at all due to the hand writing, for example...John Cusack 02 Aug 1881 her surname looks like Nunyan

I now have a copy of the the Marriage Certificate for Anthony CUSICK and Margaret Dunn.
However he was born as a CUSACK and died as a CUSACK according to his Death Certificate.

On the Death certificate (Registered Cathcart, Glasgow 1959) Anthony was a Builders Labourer retired (Married to Margarett Dunn) Address 3 Bankhall St. Glasgow.
Anthony's mother's maiden name was Ann Mugan (deceased)
Father: John Cusack, Shoemaker (deceased)
Informant: John Cusack, son. (I have his address if anybody thinks they are from the same family, then please pm me)
A copy of the Death Certificate was also issued to my Uncle James Cusack (son)who lived in Hampstead, London at the time.
I have found James and my Aunty Sheila living at this address too, on the Scotland Electoral Registers, before they moved down to London.

From the spreadsheet my Cousin also sent, all of Anthony's 8 children, (except for James the first born) had the Surname Cusick rather than Cusack, just to complicate matters!

Anthony Cusack Was born 11 July 1879 at Sraheen, (I cant' make out the District, possibly Isla??eady) in the Union of Westport, Co. Mayo, mother Anne Mugan. Father John Cusack.

One of my cousin's uncles emigrated to Canada.  Ring any bells with anyone?

My cousin has just told me that 3 of his father's siblings emigrated to Canada not one,  Anthony, Mary and Michael Cusick. My cousin also went to Canada a few years ago and met 2 of them.

Just to confirm some more information about Anthony Cusack born 11 July 1879 at Sraheen was registered in the District of Islandeady.

The website below is free to search for this sort of information in Ireland.

http://www.irish-genealogy-toolkit.com/Irish-ancestry-research.html

Sraheen was a townland in the parish of Aghagower

Islandeady, County is 10.5 miles (16.9 Km) NE of Sraheen, County Mayo. This is measured directly between the two points 'as the crow flies' ignoring any geographical features such as rivers or hills.

I still find it strange that he appears in the church baptism register before his registered birth date

Maybe that child died.  It's very common to give another child the same name afterwards too.

From my own experience my Gt Grandparents in Dublin had a lot of children that died but I only ever found a Death Certificate for one of them. I've found a few Baptisms for some that never survived but not all.

I have just found another Anthony Cusack born 29 Jan 1879

Father Patrick  Cusack Mother Catherine Lally.

All of the children's Birth Certificates I've found for John Cusack & Ann Mungan were born in Sraheen, Registration District of Islandeady.

Where did you find the Baptism 's for Anthony & Thomas Cusack? Thomas Cusack I have was born 1st April 1878.
