Title: Service records
Post by: mandywills on Monday 22 May 17 11:27 BST (UK)
I am wanting to apply for my fathers service records and have downloaded the relavent forms needed to apply. The problem I have with filling these forms is that other than his bmd details, I have little other information. I have tried searching for him on ancestry military and just fall short every time, I can't seem to find anything that would give me his service number/rank/dates and I don't even know where he was sent to fight during his time there.
All I know is that it was 'National Service'.
I have a photo of him at a very young age (about 18 years old) taken from an army barracks. On the reverse of this photo is written 'Oswestry 1949'.
After showing his photo dressed in uniform on roots chat, I was told that he likely served with the Artillery.
Name- Richard Glyn Williams
Born- 20 Dec 1930
Death- Nov 1971
Lived in Blaenau Ffestiniog, Merioneth.
He married my mother in 1956, and I was born in 1957, and am pritty sure he was no longer in the Army at the time of my birth.
His father- Richard H Williams.

You don't need his service number!
A Date of Birth will be sufficient.

All records for personnel serving after 1920, are still with the MOD.
They won't be online anywhere!
