Any fathers name on his marriage cert?
Any likely births on freebmd? I can see one in 1872 Gloucs - have you checked for mothers maiden name? 2 more in 1872 in Clifton
Have you checked the 1881 census?
-
Hi, think he was in The Barracks, Crwys Road, Cardiff in 1891, a private in the Welsh Regiment.

Did you check Family Search - his birthyear was shown as 1867 when he married on 3.2.1895

There are two Thomas Harding births in Bristol on gro.
Thomas George mmn Godwin Mar qtr 1869
Thomas Henry mmn Dredge Sep qtr 1865
Perhaps one of these is your Thomas.

On Thomas' marriage cert his age is recorded as 28, a labourer, father's name - Thomas Harding, Cloth Maker.

Have you found Thomas with Margaret on a census?
Did they have any children?

I cannot find them on either the English or Welsh 1901/1911
-
I cannot find them on either the English or Welsh 1901/1911
Neither can I ???

Using just Cardiff RD there is a Violet Harding b Dec qtr 1897 mmn Davis. Freebmd shows Margaret's surname as Davis - not Davies
EDIT - she died 1897
-
Marriage cert shows Davis
-
If there isn't a 1901/1911 census entry - where has birthyear/birthplace info come from? If he had been found in 1881 - the questions asked in the opening post would not apply
-
Thank you all so much for your replys.
Thomas Harding and Margaret Ann Davis had children
I cant find them on the 1901 census
in the 1911 census
Children are Thomas Arthur Harding born 1895 Barry Dock Glamorgan Elsie Harding born 1898 Dinas Powis they are included on the 1911 sus with Margaret Ann Davis named changed to Ann Tomkins and husband Richard Tomkins. Plus one other child born 1910 Grace Harding. Living in Coed Ely Tonyrefail Glamorgan.

I also found Thomas Harding in the Barracks in Cathys he was born in Bristol 1871
As the marriage was not until 1895 - how do you know this was the same Thomas who married Margaret Davis? What was his occupation on the 1895 marriage cert?
From my earlier reply
Any likely births on freebmd? I can see one in 1872 Gloucs
Also - it appears he may have been older and born 1867 as per his age on his marriage cert
If there was a birth reg and if he was born in Bristol - it should have been registered in the Bristol RD but I can't find any birth in that RD. Apart from the one in 1872 shown in my earlier reply there is one in 1866 but RD is Gloucester

Hi working on these baptisms are we therefore looking for a Thomas Arthur Harding?

And are we looking for a Thomas Harding or a Thomas Arthur Harding??
-
given that Richard Tomkins only seems to appear on the 1911 census, there is a possible marriage
Margaret Harding june qtr 1913 Pontypridd vol 11a pg 894 to Richard Richards

With all due respect, from marriage certificate we know that Thomas Harding was 28 i.e. bc.1867, a labourer, son of a Thomas Harding, Cloth Maker. As Thomas not located on census after his marriage to Margaret he could have been born anywhere.
Also, as he was just a labourer when he married, why is it thought he was the soldier born Bristol in 1891 (who was 5 years younger)?

Please see my reply #17 - unless other info is known that has not been posted I can't see how a birthyear and birthplace have been obtained unless it's based on an assumption that the 1891 entry is the right area so must be him?? However - that is 4 yrs before the marriage
-
From the details you gave for the 1911 on Ann Tomkins/Margaret Ann Harding, her year of birth is given as 1873. However on the marriage cert her age is recorded as 19 and therefore born c.1876 ???
All very much a mystery.

By doing a free search on the 1939 register there is a Thomas Harding b.1895 living in Llantrisant and Llantwit Fardre R.D with him is a Margaret Richards b.1875.
There is a marriage of a Margaret Harding to a Richard Richards -
q2 1913, Pontypridd
Vol 11a page 894
If you have access to the 1939 may I suggest you take a look as this could be Thomas Harding son of Thomas and Margaret and living with him is his mother. The record will give you Margaret's birth date enabling you to narrow down who Margaret was. I do appreciate that this does not help in finding out about Thomas Harding (father) but often some info can lead to other clues to the indentity of other family members.

Margaret Harding Married Richard Richards in 1913.
The mystery continues.??
Margaret Harding was Mrs Tomkins in the 1911 census ??? with Richard Tomkins
Richard Tomkins was in a near fatal colliery disaster in 1900 at Caradoc Colliery Glamorgan
Reading regarding this event Richard Tomkins was also known as Richard Richards. the second husband of Margaret Harding nee Davis.
Why did he have two surnames
And it a good night from me
