Post by: kayla0609 on Thursday 25 May 17 14:08 BST (UK)
Wonder if the kind people who helped me before can again with this problem I have.

Alfred Richard Herbert was born 1889 he married someone called Elizabeth and that is all I can find no surname for her.

Have checked the indexes I belong to  but to no avail.

Hi,

Did they have any children?

You would be able to find their mother's maiden name from the GRO website.

There is a marriage of an Alfred R Herbert -

q3 1912, Islington
Vol 1b Page 651

He married Grace E Balding.

Perhaps Grace preferred the name Elizabeth instead of Grace. What source do you have for Alfred's wife name to be Elizabeth?

on the 1939 register, know she died before 1956 when her husband died.
So perhaps I have been looking in the wrong direction searching for an Elizabeth.

Biggleswade March qtr 1956?

Electoral register has an Alfred Richard Herbert at King Street, Potton from 1952, I wonder if he was the Biggleswade death.  It still shows in 1957 but ER's are not totally reliable - no wife

I have looked at the marriage of Alfred R Herbert to Grace in 1912. Unfotunatley they are not the people you are looking for as the name on the marriage cert is Alfred Robert Herbert, father's name Robert Herbert.  ???

More research is needed................

Newspaper reports confirm he died at that address home of his sister Mrs N G Schwarze with whom he was living after his wifes death approx 4 years before. Funeral Bedford Crematorium

Just a bit more info on the newspaper article.

In his younger years he was a Regular in the Royal Scots Fusiliers as a signaller. He was captured in the first Battle of Mons and was a prisoner for the rest of WW1.

He married Elizabeth JARMAN in Dublin in 1910.  His parents named as Richard and Martha, and hers as William and Elizabeth (church record)

I don't think this will work without the ridiculous sign in process:

On the 1922 Electoral register Arthur Richard Herbert is living with his parents Richard James and Martha at 169 Northumberland Park, Tottenham. Also living with them is Lilian Elizabeth Herbert. Did Herbert have a sister of this name or could it be his wife?

The Royal Scots Fusiliers, 2nd Battalion moved from Dublin to Londonderry in 1910 and stayed until 1912.

This could be Elizabeth on the Irish 1911 -

Good luck with the rest of your research  :)
