Title: Ancestry home page has changed
Post by: familydar on Friday 26 May 17 17:14 BST (UK)
Ancestry have updated their website.  Home page now looks completely different, apparently uncustomisable and with search near the bottom.  Does anyone have any idea what's happened to quick links?  And the link to new/newly updated datasets?

I had to log in this morning which must be the first time in around two years, but nothing has changed.  Are you using the .com or .co.uk site?

Meant to say, the UK site and I use IE11.  I have a userid but no current subscription.  Screen grab attached.

It probably makes a difference if you logon with your UserId?

I always stay logged on, even though I no longer pay for a subscription.
And the home page doesn't look too different?

The screen grab IS of my login page after I've logged in, that's why there's the big black block after the word welcome, covering my userid.

The change might have happened some time back because I normally stay logged in, however today I was forced to login afresh.

I made use of the previously available customisation tools that enabled me to have the search box and latest records link near the top of the page and set up links to frequently used datasets.  So to me the new home page looks very different.  It could be it looks pretty much unchanged to users who didn't play with these tools.

I can't see a way of diving straight in to a specific dataset.  I know I can do a normal search and drill down to the dataset that interests me, or look it up in the card catalog, but I used to be able to achieve this with one click.

The current personalisation tools ("site preferences") seem to be fairly lightweight by comparison.  They seem to be geared towards users who are prepared to buy a subscription but aren't all that sure how to go about searching.  Ancestry seem to have forgotten about those of us who have been researching for years and know exactly what we want to look at (NEWLY ADDED/UPDATED DATASETS!).

Well -- maybe it will happen to the rest of us soon, but as yet mine is the same as previously.

I hate change ?

Oooooh just logged in using Chrome, my old home page is still there.  Here's another screen grab so Rootschatters can see what I'm on about, with the changes I'm peeved about circled in orange.

Don't understand what's going on but it seems I have a workaround (for now at least).

I think I had this earlier this week, but the next time I entered the site the regular home page had returned

It's same as always for me but I always use the "Search" button "All Records" then you get the normal search box in its usual place.
