Title: PARDON/PEARDON and Merton Devon
Post by: meeganf on Saturday 27 May 17 05:05 BST (UK)
Hi there
Wonder if someone could advise me please? Looking for the bap for Joan PARDON abt 1725-1735 (approximate to her m. in 1752) and marriage of her parents in Merton I guess a bit before that. Have looked on the Merton village site where they have kindly transcribed PRs and have a Joan PEARDON dau of John and Eliz. Question - are the 2 sp. of the name likely to be the same person?

Then have a m. of a John PEARDON and Elizabeth POUND in 1721 in Bideford, Devon by licence. The image looks as though it says Elizabeth is from Martin - fairly clearly too - and yet I can't find a village called Martin anywhere close by. Have the PEARDON and Bideford from 2 sources. Is it likely that someone from Merton, the groom, would go to Bideford for a marriage?

Is it too unlikely that PEARDON and PARDON are the same? Feel like I am chasing my tail as there is also a PEAREN alias PARDON mentioned!

Just put me out of my misery please?
Cheers
Meegan

There is Coombe Martin in North Devon, but not particularly close to Bideford.

I did see Combe Martin but it is away from Bideford. And it definitely says Martin - if the writing was bad I'd be happy to imagine Merton but no such luck
Thanks

Thanks Carol - saw that and that is another under consideration. Not that far from Merton.

Can't make up relationships on guesses - you wouldn't think that the name was so popular
