I am trying to help a friend find a little bit about her grandmother and great grandparents. She knows very little as she hasn't been interested until lately.
Kathleen Lillian Bradley was born in Harrogate about august 1894-95 .her father was a butcher , possible name George, however he died when Kathleen was very young. her mother and brother carried on with the shop and She had an elder sister, possibly named jean.Kathleen was christened and confirmed in the catholic church in Harrogate Leeds and all the records were lost in a fire. Kathleen immigrated to new Zealand , probably prior to 1920 as she married here and her first child was born in 1921.
Could anybody help to find this Bradley family in Harrogate please.
Regards
lynne

Did you check freebmd for a birth for her - there isn't one.
Does her 1920 marriage cert show her father as George? There is no George Bradley occ butcher living in Harrogate in 1891
What was her mothers name and her brothers name?
-
Just checking - Bradley was her birth surname - not her married name??
-
Harrogate births were registered in the Knaresborough RD but there is no birth for her between 1891-1901

Thank you to everyone for replies ,especially to keyboard 86 with the suggestion to look at the shipping list. I did that and found that Kathleen Lillian was 25 when she immigrated in 1914, meaning that she was born in 1889. she married in New Zealand around 1920.Now waiting for information from a marriage or death certificate.

Hi does not look to be her as she looks to be the Katherine /Catherine Lavinia Bradley 1889 Leeds in 1891/1901 census

No Kathleen/Catherine Lillian Bradley birth anywhere between 1888 - 1889
-
I wonder if she was illegitimate and registered under another surname. If her mother then married Kathleen may have taken her stepfathers surname.
However - that doesn't explain why she is not found as Bradley in 1901/1911!!
-
Hi Carole, it is also the "add ons" Father possibly George occ Butcher, possible older sister Jean, mother/son carrying on the business after his death in possibly Harrogate that bugs me!?

was christened and confirmed in the catholic church in Harrogate Leeds
Harrogate and Leeds are 2 entirely different places approx 15 miles apart.
I think we need to wait until the 1920 marriage cert is obtained

Still awaiting a reply to my questions
What was her mothers name and her brothers name?
Just checking - Bradley was her birth surname - not her married name??

I can't see any suitable Kathleen Lillian Bradley marriage in the free NZ online index.
Is she the Catherine Bradley who married Thomas Bolger in 1920?
If so we may need to look for another migration record for her.

Hi Kevynne
I really think you need to get more info from the friend you are helping as nothing ties up with records in England
The marriage cert is a good starting point

Hope this helps you with the marriage, from the NZ Board. To save you searching.

Harrogate is in the diocese of Leeds - but not yet pinpointed which records were lost in a fire.

Reply on NZ shows her headstone. 65 when she died in March 1956 so birthyear 1890/91. No mention of a middle name on her death reg or on her headstone
