I know this is a long shot!......but i am currently researching the former crossing house on the LD&ECR's Beighton Branch, which has now closed, not to be confused with the current crossing that is still there 100 yds along the road over the Robin Hood Line.
The building seems to have been known as The Gatehouse and Norwood Cottage
I am trying to find out who was the very first crossing attendant to have worked in the house, the line opened to traffic in 1896 so this should be on the 1901 and 1911 census, but i dont know how to find the entry from the little information i have!
As i said it was called The Gatehouse or Norwood Cottage it seems, although Whaley Crossing has also been found as a name for the crossing itself, the road i believe to be called Mag Lane but again, the current residents tell me some mail arrives addressed to Norwood Lane!..
can anyone give me any pointers on how i might be able to find this property on the 1901 and 1911 censusses plz? thanks!!

Charles Charlesworth 70 b. Marchington, Staffordshire Gatekeeper on Railway. Points at level crossing
Ann Charlesworth 65 b. Alton, Staffordshire
Henry Charlesworth 26 b. Scarcliffe, Derbyshire
James Charlesworth 24 b. Scarcliffe, Derbyshire
Lucy Charlesworth gr. dau 11 b. Scarcliffe, Derbyshire

Hopefully this 'help' page will enable you to post the image which would be very useful.

my screen doesnt look as it does on that guide sadly, all i see at the bottom is "Attachments and other options", and under that is "Notify me of replies by e-mail", "Dont use smileys" and "return to this topic"....there are no boxes or links there to attach anything for some strange reason...how annoying! :(

ah i've found this "also, just to let you know you can't attach images to topics posted on the look-up requests boards"...
how daft is that! sometimes descriptions arent enough..all i can do is post the same question in another forum that allows attachments! annoying yes! lol
