Hi, I am trying to find some information on my ggg grandmother Jane SIM(M)S. I believe she may have come from Suffolk. She was born according to her death certificate in 1817. In 1841 my ggg grandparents were living in London and both were listed as being born outside the county. I have established that John BANKS (ggg gf) came from Nayland, Suffolk so am assumIng that Jane also came from Suffolk (she died in 1846). I have found on familysearch a baptism for a Jane SIMS in 1817 in Sudbury which is not too far from Nayland. The dates would work but need to find the marriage (pre 1837 registration). Does anyone have access to the relevant records? or can point me in the right direction to be able to check them myself. Any help would be appreciated.
Regards, Sandra

This has probably got absolutely nothing to do with your ggg grandparents but I have found a marriage in Castle Church, Staffordshire between a Jane Syms and a John Banks which took place on 24 Augusr 1835. The witness was a Henry Clarkson.

Thankyou. I also had found that but I have not found any connection to Staffordshire. Both names are quite common in both areas and I don't think they are the ones. Thankyou for looking.

Ok, 1851 John has remarried.
Birth Regs GRO Index
BANKS, JOSEPH, Mothers mn SIMS***
GRO Reference: 1841 D Quarter in HOLBORN UNION Volume 02 Page 113
BANKS, GEORGE, Mothers mn LYMS****
GRO Reference: 1843 M Quarter in HOLBORN UNION Volume 02 Page 127
1841 in Holborn we have;
John Banks, 25, Shoemaker, not born in County
Jane Banks, 20, not born in County
Wm Banks, 3
Mary Banks, 1
Children born in County
Cant find a Birth Reg for Mary under Banks c 1840

GRO Reference: 1839 J Quarter in OF THE HOLBORN UNION MIDDLESEX Volume 02
Also a few Trees have have HARRY born c 1855 Hampshire as the Son of John Sladen Marsh Banks and Mary Ann Stacey.

Sorry am getting carried away!
1871 we have;
Henry Marsh, 59, born Dorset
Ann Marsh, 65
John Banks, 56, Lodger, Shoemaker
Mary Ann Banks, 48, Lodgers Wife
Harry Banks, 16, Lodgers Son, born Portsea
Benjamin Banks, 6, Grandson**
Gro Ondex seems to have his Mothers mn as MARSH
If you follow Henry Marsh back to 1851 we have;
Henry Marsh, 39
Ann Marsh, 45
Alice Marsh, 5
Emma Marsh, 3
Charloth Odell, 23
Emily Odell, 21
William Odell, 19
Odell Children are all Step-Children to Henry
EMILY Odell Baptised 15 May 1829, Hampshire, Parents RICHARD/ANN
So Mary Anns Sister, Siblings and Mother in 1851 Census.
EMMA Marsh age 3 in 1851 married a Joseph BANKS.
19 July 1864, St Marys, Portsmouth
Emma Eliza MARSH age 19 to Joseph BANKS age 23
So they are likely Benjamins Parents and therefore he is a Grandson of the Marshs.

Thankyou for all that info. I do have all that already. I have followed up on Cordelia Mary Ann and have found a death for her in 1839 aged 4 months so she is definitely not my Mary but is there a link on the mothers side?
I have not been able to find any baptisms either for any of the children in or around Holborn.
I will just have to keep looking :-)
